Good thing I live in an area away from the Fault, even though I’ll be affected since I AM in California.
I hope Southern California gets the most deaths, less a holes and wannabe celebrity d-bags to deal with.

Earthquakes cannot be predicted, so everything you may have heard regarding a earthquake in California will be theories.
Nobody knowns where and when the next earthquake will be.
Just cross your fingers it won’t be somewhere with a high population and it’ll only be a small earthquake.
Added:
Most animals (especially birds) will know when an earthquake is going to happen around 2 minutes beforehand. That is the only way we can prepare ourselfs minutes beforehand.

Eventually.
There is a lot of good scientific information in the booklet linked below (depending on where you live in CA – northern or southern).

From personal experience having lived in North Central Coast California, There were a series of small quakes prior to the big one that rocked the area in ’89.
I’d say when you have some three and four pointers in a series, it’s time to go.

There is no way of accurately predicting the next quake. Based on history and the strata beneath California, there will be more major ones. A 7.9 hit Alaska in 2002, but California did not follow.
The sources list various quakes over the years in different parts of the world. The last one is for the largest in the U.S.
There could be a major California quake as you are reading this or one may not happen for serveral years.
Here are some sites on preparedness:

Actually, earthquakes can be predicted using the the seismic data of a particular area. Your library probably has books and information containing seismic reports and predictions of the next California earthquake. This website might be helpful too:

Every town or city that sits near or astride major faults gets hit eventually BUT the more tectonic noise a fault makes throughout the year (a.ka-small quakes and tremors), the less likely such an event would be, as large quakes are only caused when there is a build up of stress within the fault. The San Andreas and Hayward faults have been pretty ‘noisey’ recently, so there is a smaller chance of such an event happening any time soon.

This I think is based on Jim Berkland. So I think he said there would be more lost pets right before and it will follow a full Moon, a four day window if I remember correctly.
But that was an older one with the new data he my have changed his tune. A full Moon tonight.
No matter what you think, being ready is a good thing.
