Tsunami
When in fact a tsunami rarely reaches no more than 12in until they reach shallower water. There power is from the momentum they been carrying for X amount of miles. Usu sally created by earthquakes, or underwater volcano’s and what not….
Why do you think some movies construe a tsunami as a big wave?

Basically it’s for visual effect, and this is what most people would expect to see. Could you imagine paying your hard earned cash to go to a cinema and to watch some disaster movie, and all you could see was a meter high wave slowly gathering speed towards you from the horizon? No it’s a lot more effective to have some 300 meter high, grey wall of foaming death race towards you giving the people enough time to panic and form a stampede.

Because showing a a one foot high wave with a 120 foot wavelength doesn’t provide the same dramatic effect as a 50 foot wave washing across the ocean. But also since it is a big wave or surge on shore, that is how most people picture a tsunami.
