http://www.co.monterey.ca.us/oes/quake.htm#How%20to%20prepare%20for%20earthquakes…you got to find these things out my friend….use your computer.search.
I was in the Landers earthquake in Cali in 92′….a big 7.3…..I lived all the way inland in the San Bernardino area but up in the mountains(Crestline)….me and a friend were all crashed out after a night of partying at my cabin….he was in the living room on the couch,me in my bedroom….all of a sudden my whole place started shaking hard…whaka whacka whakca whakca…and a mirror on my wall fell down and crashed on my head….my friend hollered "what the hell is going on!"…."Earthquake" I screamed….when it was over we were trapped in the mountains…all the roads had big boulders in them and CHP wouldn’t let us go down to San Bernardino. We needed supplies….luckily I had a 4×4 at the time and we took some secret fire roads to the bottom…..but I learned that it pays to be prepared for Mother Nature.

My advice is to have an escape route planned before anything like that happens. The best place is to not be in a building at all. Try to get out into a wide open space, away from any objects that could fall on you and harm you.

earthquakes dont kill people, buildings collapsing because of an earthquake kill people. the best place to be when one hits is outside away from trees and ledges.

Well, if you’re near a door, run to a place where there’s no (or the least) buildings and trees. Being upstairs by a door is good, but being downstairs under a table is also good.
When you’re in school, don’t you have earthquake drills under tables?

I’ve heard it’s best to be in a doorway because it is reinforced and will withstand more damage than open space.

You can go in a open place where no buildings n trees are located.and the rest one methods that you use as you said in your question its also good.
