What can I do to feel more prepared for a hurricane?

Hurricane
I am going to live with my dad soon for about 6 weeks. He lives right on the coast of southern North Carolina (3 minute walk from the ocean). I am a bit worried about what would happen in the case of a hurricane. What can I do to be prepared? I know that my dad and stepmom have the basics like food/water and emergency supplies or whatever but what can I do? I am 17, almost 18 by the way and I will have my own car there. Also, what happens in the case of a hurricane evacuation? Advice from someone who has experienced it? Thanks for your help!

Always watch the weather forecasts during Huricane season (June 1st to Nov.30th). If a Hurricane is heading your way make sure your father knows all about it and has an escape route planned out and make a list ahead of time of items that you would want to take with you because if a Huricane was close to you, you would be in a panic and likely forget some important things to bring with you.

If it’s just a minor hurricane I would board up all the window’s place all your valuable pictures etc. I know it sounds strange to do that but i have a lot of pictures and other things like that that contain a lot of sentimental value. I would hate to see them go in such a harsh way. Also bring your pets be prepared to have them leave as soon as possible. Make sure you have there cages and food and water for them. Hope i helped.
