what are the units of the richter scale?

i know how you measure it and everything, but i notice they always say this many "units". units of what?

If i remember correctly, the Richter scale is logarithmic meaning that a change in score from one number to the next increases the magnitude of the quake by a factor of 10. In other words, an 8 is 10 times stronger than a 7 and a 4 is 10 times stronger than a 3. Therefore, there are not really any units like milligrams or meters or pounds, etc.

i understand what your saying and usually sometimes they just say units and it means units. but here it a website that might help
