Earthquake Questions
I’m doing a project in algebra on earthquakes. I think that it might be the Richter scale and the mercalli scale. but there’s also a seismograph…so im not sure which two to use.

There are two main types of scales that are used to measure earthquakes. The Richter scale, and the Mercalli scale.
The Richter scale is a standard scale used to compare earthquakes to one another. A seismograph measures ground movement but may also move itself during measurement (and is therefore often quite large). The Mercalli scale is used to measure earthquake intensity (commonly in the US) in roman numerals and often in conjunction with the Richter scale.
If you’re pressed to choose two, don’t quake in your boots, I’d choose Richter and Mercalli.

A seismograph uses the Richter scale.
