There was a Hokkaido earthquake around 11:20 p.m. Japan time on July 16 — earlier in the day, there was one in Niigata which was quite destructive. Was the Hokkaido earthquake related to that, or pretty much a seperate event?

Also, where does one go on the internet to find news about very recent earthquakes in Japan? I know the TV stations broadcast info about earthquakes and tsunami, but if I miss the announcement, I’ve been having a hard time finding the right words to put in the search engine. Japanese sites are OK.

BTW, I tried USGS, but they didn’t have it right away.
Try the USGS, Mr. Man. They have a world map that shows some of the recent strong earthquakes. It looks like there have been a lot this year — but mostly around the Pacific Plate, only a few scattered in other areas. However, it looks like they don’t show *all* the earthquakes. They ask people to report earthquakes not shown on the map. Good luck!

It was a minor quake and I know Illinois is at high risk for them, and not just because of the New Madrid Fault but many other ones too. It was a little shake and last year I hear a sonic boom and the power went out, so if you did feel the quake that just happened right now go here: http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/cus/html/unknown_form.html
PLEASE ANSWER!!!

I don’t care how big or how little you think it is; I’m not in San Fran – I’m in Seattle. I wanted to know if you felt it, and if you did, you should fill out the form to help them be better understood.

We keep having earthquakes, but whenever I go online to check with USGS on the magnitude, they are never listed. These are definitely earthquakes because I can even hear the ceiling and occasionally the trees sway and the house moves in a jolt, so what's going on? Why doesn't the USGS have a censor in this area?

I would like to read the earthquake information published by the USGS or the southern California earthquake center as a widget. How do I ad it as a widget?
