I am 17 and I need to figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life, my career. I wanted to be an Architect, but now I’m second guessing it. I am taking it as an elective at my high school, and its a lot of fun, but I know once i get to college, theres so much more to it than just making up floor plans.
Before Architecture, I wanted to become a Meteorologist. I kinda still do. I have an interest in weather and Natural Disasters(like tornadoes and earthquakes). My mom keeps telling me she can’t picture me in either career. I’m not sure if I can either all so much now I think about it.
So, What career is for me? I like drawing, designing, deciding where things go, music, weather, sports, helping others, nature, the environment, etc. I don’t like fashion and history.
I know for one, that I don’t want to become a nurse or doctor or dentist or vet or related fields. I am like, terrified of needles and stuff like that.
Thankyou for your responses :)

I am teaching students about tornadoes. I need some kinds of activity that will show them the conditions (temperature and humidity) of a tornado. Any ideas?

I’m terrified of tornadoes. I think it’s because I’ve never experienced one, and the thought of like being in my house and just watching a giant tornado of doom come toward me; scares the crap out of me.

Ok. I’m doing a project in my science class on tornadoes and I’ve been searching and searching and I can’t find anything. Also, I need some weather conditions because I can’t find them either and Local and National Agencies that help with weather forecasting, preparation, information, disaster relief, etc.
ok. for the preparation for tornadoes part i have to have 20 preparations and i only have 6 from the american red cross website any other suggestions because all the websites pretty much have all the same information.

We had our home destroyed by a Tornado in February of this year. We got about 2,000 from the government to help us in recuperation what we lost as well. I’m using taxact.com to do our taxes as I’ve done every year for a while now and I’m stuck on how to enter this in and exactly what to put, as I’ve never had to do this before.
Yes it was declared a national disaster. It was the Tornadoes that hit Tennessee earlier this year.

I’m really interested in meteorology and hope to become a meteorologist some day. My high school is having a science fair. I chose to do a tornado. My question is Why are tornadoes more powerful than hurricanes but don’t last nearly as long as hurricanes. How am I supposed to do this experiment? I really want to do this topic so I need help on how I can do this experiment or if there’s another experiment related to weather that I can actually do.

When food, fuel, power are scarce and expensive. When the sea water will rise between 7 to 43 meter. When hurricane, tornadoes, flood and drought will increase in intensity and reduce our habitat and food supply to a dangerous level. When population increase to 9 Billion. What do we need to do? and Would we able to do something about it or it is no longer humanly possible to correct? Read Luke 21 about the sign of the coming of the Creator for Overhaul job of the earth.

I have been having these dreams about natural disasters (tidle waves and two tornadoes towering up to the sky). People drowing and I am trying to help people. Has anyone else had these kind of dreams, particulaly people in Bexhill on sea?
ie; tornadoes, tidle waves, people floating up to the sky, Gods face in the sky, pulling people up from the water etc

Does anyone officially know what the storm in Illinois (southern Illinois mostly) was classified?

In my area, just finding drinking water or gasoline was a serious issue. Most of us finally have power today. Many of us lost our stock and emergency supplies too in the clocked 108 mph winds. A huge oak tree from across the street uprooted and landed on top of our home, so we are staying at a motel in another county. The first night we camped out in our back yard with what we could find. I don’t know how many deters we made to find a road or highway that was clear after that first day.

I would like to know if anyone has an official name for this storm. On the radio, NOAA is saying it was a very rare occurance, but he seemed ambiguous on whether it was a straight line of tornadoes or an inland hurricane. He stated that it was as severe as a hurricane, but it also behaved as if it were tornadoes.

I was just listening to Pat Robertson on You Tube. Terrorists do take advantage of political changes, 1993 (Clinton), 2001 (Bush), 2007 (New Congress?). Not a big leap to think of a terrorist attack in 2007. Kind of an anti-climax announcement.

But it did get me thinking, how many people actually prepare for a possible disaster by having a few days of food around, flash lights, medical supplies, that kind of thing. The normal Red Cross Be Prepared kind of thing.

All the "Oh my God the world is going to be destroyed by…" Nuclear war, global warming, terrorists, hurricanes, tornadoes, infestations of caterpillars, etc can leave this one alone.

I just want to know how many reasonably normal people have checked out ready.gov and have some emergency supplies around in case of a disaster.
Thanks. The ratio of real answers to silly answers tells me a lot too. Looks like if there was a major disaster any major urban center in the country things would end up a lot like they were in Louisiana. On the other hand, it kind of looks like people in rural or suburban areas might be better prepared. Kind of a common sense thing I would guess. some kind of ratio of storage space versus costs versus convince and availability, I would assume.

Thanks.

I live less than 50 ft from a cliff that drop about 100 to 150 ft straight down. I also live in the Midwest which has frequent tornado activity. I am curious to know if anyone knows what happens if a tornadoes path encounters a cliff or sudden drop in elevation? Does its path normally steer it away from it, pressure effect it, wind changes? I have wondered about this for while, can anyone help me out with some more information concerning this, thanks!

I have wanted to become a tornado chaser since I was five years old. I love storms and most of all, tornadoes. I am graduating from high school this year. What do I have to do to become a tornado chaser? Obviously I will have to get training and go to College, but what type of college? Where would I find out information? Do you have to be good at math? What are all the things I have to do?
Please help!

Watching the California burning into ashes, I honestly believe New York is the most safest state from natural disaster… West Coast (California, Utah) have forest fire and earthquake, mid-west (Oklahoma, Kansas) have tornadoes, southern states (florida, Lousiana, New Orleans) have hurricanes and flooding, northern states (Chicago, Michigan, Maine, Wyoming) have blizzard, and phoenix is just hell… what does ny have?

1. I want to know, which 52 states have the least natural disaster, such as tornadoes, hurricane, thunderstorm, snow, mudslide, earthquake, and landslide..etc.

#2. Also which states have the best cost of living and least tax.

If one believes that a living cell can come into existence by coincidence, then there is nothing to prevent one from believing a similar story that we will relate below. It is the story of a town:
One day, a lump of clay, pressed between the rocks in a barren land, becomes wet after it rains. The wet clay dries and hardens when the sun rises, and takes on a stiff, resistant form. Afterwards, these rocks, which also served as a mould, are somehow smashed into pieces, and then a neat, well shaped, and strong brick appears. This brick waits under the same natural conditions for years for a similar brick to be formed. This goes on until hundreds and thousands of the same bricks have been formed in the same place. However, by chance, none of the bricks that were previously formed are damaged. Although exposed to storm, rain, wind, scorching sun, and freezing cold for thousands of years, the bricks do not crack, break up, or get dragged away, but wait there in the same place with the same determination for other bricks to form.
When the number of bricks is adequate, they erect a building by being arranged sideways and on top of each other, having been randomly dragged along by the effects of natural conditions such as winds, storms, or tornadoes. Meanwhile, materials such as cement or soil mixtures form under "natural conditions", with perfect timing, and creep between the bricks to clamp them to each other. While all this is happening, iron ore under the ground is shaped under "natural conditions" and lays the foundations of a building that is to be formed with these bricks. At the end of this process, a complete building rises with all its materials, carpentry, and installations intact.
Of course, a building does not only consist of foundations, bricks, and cement. How, then, are the other missing materials to be obtained? The answer is simple: all kinds of materials that are needed for the construction of the building exist in the earth on which it is erected. Silicon for the glass, copper for the electric cables, iron for the columns, beams, water pipes, etc. all exist under the ground in abundant quantities. It takes only the skill of "natural conditions" to shape and place these materials inside the building. All the installations, carpentry, and accessories are placed among the bricks with the help of the blowing wind, rain, and earthquakes. Everything has gone so well that the bricks are arranged so as to leave the necessary window spaces as if they knew that something called glass would be formed later on by natural conditions. Moreover, they have not forgotten to leave some space to allow the installation of water, electricity and heating systems, which are also later to be formed by coincidence. Everything has gone so well that "coincidences" and "natural conditions" produce a perfect design.
If you have managed to sustain your belief in this story so far, then you should have no trouble surmising how the town’s other buildings, plants, highways, sidewalks, substructures, communications, and transportation systems came about. If you possess technical knowledge and are fairly conversant with the subject, you can even write an extremely "scientific" book of a few volumes stating your theories about "the evolutionary process of a sewage system and its uniformity with the present structures". You may well be honoured with academic awards for your clever studies, and may consider yourself a genius, shedding light on the nature of humanity.
The theory of evolution, which claims that life came into existence by chance, is no less absurd than our story, for, with all its operational systems, and systems of communication, transportation and management, a cell is no less complex than a city.

I’m back at school and bad weather is putting a lot of tornadoes out there. In fact we had a tornado warning today and had to huddle in the back of my literature classes’ wall. We don’t have a basement.

I am always afraid if a desk is going to whip across and kill me or something is going to fall on my head.

How exactly can you be prepared for a tornado at school?

I know WHY it’s called Tornado Alley, but why is it more prone to tornadoes than other areas? Is it because there’s a greater expanse of flat/flatish land?

I know that there is no state without hurricanes, tornades and earthquakes at all. However I’m looking for a state with the least huricanes, tornades and earthquakes.

OK, we all understand from grade school how tornadoes form from colliding air masses.

But once a tornado starts and drops below the tempest, why don’t the rotating air molecules simply disperse due to the tremendous centrifugal forces?

What force is diverting a tornodo’s 100+ MPH air molecules into a circular motion?
