i live on the east coast of the united states. i was getting ready to sleep at around 5:00 am eastern time (really late) when all of a sudden i felt this tremor in the ground. there was a passive vibrating and i could feel it through my bed. i could have sworn i heard some faint rumbling. the house alarm beeped a few times afterward. what is going on?
Some time in the middle of the night my mother was having a nightmare and it sounded like she was talking for 2 people by the way she was talking in her sleep.Then she wakes up and tells me what was bothering her in her dream (2 – 4 am). After she tells me, I try to fall asleep ( I think about allot of things before i fall asleep ). But as i was thinking i asked god to show me if there really is a god, So 4 minutes later a small earthquake happens?
could it have just been a coincidence?
or was it god showing me?
there was an earthquake in pico rivera about two days ago at 4 something am….. i was woken up in the worst way possble and it was very shoking, my first reaction was to turn around and hug my little sister who is about 12 and say some comforting things to her while it passed (i lasted about 20 secs which is not so bad) eventually i realized that i was more scared than her because she went back to sleep about 20 mins after that i stayed up for the rest of the morning till school started terrified that there will be an aftershock unfortunatley it has been like this for the past two nights and i havent been able to get a good night sleep i just stare out my window or try to stay on the fone with my boyfriend till he falls asleep on me ( i know this sounds funny lol) but i think i need help, does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? or any words of comfort? im paranoid and its interfering not just with my sleep but with my head, everytime i close my eyes i picture a massive earthquake and people running everywhere. HELP PLEASE.
Did any of you feel a little shakey-ness like around 12 or 1 am or maybe it was later i don’t remember, last night. I think it was those small earthquakes cuz i was a sleep and i heard a big bang, and it freaked me and my cats out. I’m in California by the way. So i’m a little confused?

when i was 8 i had a dream that we were and war..in the dream i was crying i couldnt find my mother because there were lots of men with guns..about 2 months later the twin towers were attacked..and we went to war.
.a month before my grandfather died..i dreamed he was shot..a month later he died in his sleep.
.i had a dream that i said some one has died and i thinkl i was at the funiral in the dream..the next day m uncle died.
..i had a dream of me say omg she died why did she die? and boats sinking and stuff and people dieing..the next day i found out a girl i knew with cancer had died..
.i had a dream that my best friend who moved away to another state 1 and a half years ago, who i havent seen in that long was pregnant and put picture of her belly on myspace and i saw the picture in my dream..that very next day she posted pictures up with the words ‘"im having a baby girl" and her posing the exact way my dreams saw..exept in my dream her shirt was brown and in real life her shirt was black..
.about one and a half weeks ago i had a hoorrriible dream..i dreamed that i was in a place where peoples feet were cut off..i was walking barefooted and i stepped in a huge puddle of blood..i was in a hospital and it was abandoned..as if something had happened..there were people outside..some were hurt really bad..some were praying…one man that doesnt leave my minds foot was cut off..thhey tried to save him..they almost did then he died…a couple of days later the earthquake in haiti happend..i saw some things in pictures that i had seen in my dream…
now im dreaming my father is going to get killed..so is my dog..i dream this alot..and its been twice that my father and dog die in the same dream..sometime there are dreams where i tell people that they died…helpppppp idk what to do anymore..there have been more things that happened but these are the worst…please tell me!! i pray to God..i love God..i believe truely in God..but please tell me

i cant really help it..i pray to god everynight..i pray to him to please let me have good dreams..i am a chritian..i was raised one..i cant help what i dream and definitly cant help what i dream happening.im afraid..i was raised to believe this was from the devil or demons..but i pray to GOd..i try my best to do as he says..and this happens to me??? why?

i live in some condos in a very small but snowy town. and the dumping ground for all the extra snow from the roads seems to be right behind my building. (like 50 feet away). normally i wake up about 4 or 5 on snowy days to the sound of dump trucks.
well it didn’t snow today but i guess someone decided that tonight they would call in every noisy dump truck in town to behind our condo. there are at least FIVE beeping, loud, thunderous trucks shoving snow around and its almost one in the morning! every light, picture frame, dish and tv is rattling as if in a constant earthquake. MY WHOLE APARTMENT SOUNDS LIKE ITS UNDER ATTACK!
what can i do? who can i call to see if they can do this during the day? this is ridiculous! i have a 3 month old, and my husband works early in the morning- sleep is precious! any ideas??? please?
It’s 12:55 in the morning (August 9, 2007), and I’m quietly putting my T-shirt outside in the laundry machine. As I walk to the washing machine, the dogs inside the house, locked far away in a room begins barking. I remember this because I was really annoyed that they were going to wake up the others.
Then other dogs outside in the open of my neighborhood begins to bark. I know this because I was muttering stuff at them for making such a ^%$#%$ racket.
Then exactly 20 seconds later, there is a strong earthquake. I run straight under my desk, … shaking. Then I thought about the dogs and the timing of the barkings.
I consider myself a factual, rational, no-nonsense guy, but this is really creepy and strange. I’m not implying or suggesting anything, but just what happened after midnight.
I have to go back to sleep now. Any comments would be appreciated.
Anyone who owns a business in New Orleans or Gulf Coast of the US should have hard time digesting that so many poor African Americans have been mistreated after the hurricane.
How can you all sleep at night and let this problem continue TO THIS DAY????
To make it worse, corporate folks made big dollars off of FEMA contractors who gave free trailors and big money to businesses to supply for needy people, yet the money should have gone to the poor starving families.
How can you people sleep at night and not feel terrible over this?

Ok so can anybody give me some information on earthquakes? I’m studying abroad this year in Italy around 40 miles from where the big earthquake was the other day. Anyway what I’m wondering is if anybody knows if it’s normal that keep having big shakes. Some are being classes as aftershocks obviously but we’ve had 3 more above 5.0 on the Richter scale, with the last being only around 20mins ago. Is this normal? And if so and it is just the settling of the ground how long can we expect major shakes for? I’m really scared! these apartment blocks swaying like they are all the time is really frightening, I can’t sleep and I live on the 5th floor so it feels really dangerous up here. I’ve just found out that the last quake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale and like i say this was only a short while ago, what can I do to make myself feel better?!

Thanks the geologist that’s helpful. Well as I live on the 5th floor I’m not thinking about exit strategies because I heard you shouldn’t go into the internal stairwell. This may sound stupid but I thought I may put a mattress on top of my bathtub with a couple of bottles of water etc inside then if I feel another one get in under the mattress. Is this a really stupid idea or not?

who else is freaking out that the super volcano is going to erupt at any time?
I’ve been having nightmares. It’s 3am and I can’t get to sleep, I’m actually shaking. Anyone else know about this? Is a super volcano eminent?
I feel really silly about being scared, but a friend told me it was going to happen like in the next few months, and I read online that a super volcano explosion would mean the end of the world basically. I’m really scared. i’m only 15. I don’t want the world to end yet. I’m not even allowed to date till I turn 16 in July

Scientists dont’ seem all that concerned, and neither does my dad. he’s the smartest guy in the world IMO. (sometimes. LOL) and my mom tells me kids my age shouldn’t worry about such deep issues.

A few years back when I was attending a school at a technical college in Tacoma, Washington….I was always missing school because, I was partying late and could’nt get up in the mornings. Though I wanted to go to school and do what is right. I awoke in the morning to my alarm clock very tired and found myself falling back to sleep. I wished these exact words, " I wish a earthquake would happen or something" to God. Within seconds the earth was moving. It was the biggest earthquake I felt since I lived here. I think it was like a 6.8. Do you think God was talking to me or giving me sign or was it just coincidence.
Just to add a note. I don’t recall anyone getting hurt from the earthquake. I will have to look into that. Thanks for the answers everyone!
I heard there is supposed to be a HUGE earthquake happening soon in California and im really scared. Is it going to be big enough to bring down houses and if it is what are you supposed to do? Im afraid to go to sleep.
I also only have two tables in my house in which i would have to run all the way across my house to get to.
When the first quake struck on Tuesday I hadn’t CLUE what was happening, have only been in Cali for 8 months, from WI and never felt the earth move before. I fell and a paper reem fell on top of me in the fax room at work. I was shaking and crying for well over an hour. Now that night no sleep every tremor terrifed me and I was so scared of “The Big One”. Now last night we had a smaller but still very noticable one, and I have had hardly and sleep. Every little aftershock (there has been over 50 in my area!) makes me jump up and panic. I get a lump in my throat, palpitations and shortness of breath. I keep telling myself that now I know what it feels like and am more prepared but as soon as I am feelng better another one comes and I am back in the same state of mind. Any suggestions on how to overcome this horrible panic?
Ok, us Californians had a pretty good sized earthquake today at 11:32am.
I work at night and don't get home until 7am, so I slept through it. I found out later that I live only 8 miles away from the epicenter of the earthquake.
What's even worse is that MOST of my pictures and paintings fell from the wall and I was soooo knocked out that I didn't hear the shattering glass, either!
Am I the only one that can sleep soundly during the course of a major disaster?
