No quakes in the 30 years I’ve lived here, but it only takes one. . .

Ok so ive been doing some research, Here are the latest earthquakes: Haiti, Chile, now Taiwan.

What do you think? Isnt it wierd. Might be the start of apocalypse. Or maybe the mayans where right whe only have 2 more yrs left.

The earthquakes in Haiti and Chile were both huge, and they did not occur over a long period of time, the only around 2 months apart. Is there a reason for these earthquakes? I know what causes earthquakes, I want to know if theres something else happening that caused the two massive quakes , or if it means something will happen? Or is it just a coincidence? What do you think?

I get notices of all earthquakes over a 2.5 (Richter) there seems to be way to many small ones called clusters. In one area of CA where my sister lives there were 99 from 1.1 to 4.4 in one week. There are also quakes happening in areas that are normally very quiet. Yellowstone National Park, CA is dancing all over the place north, central and southern, Mexico is getting in on the action too as well as there being quakes all over the world. Today there was a 4.1 almost on the border of New Mexico and Colorado. That’s an odd one. We had a couple small ones here in Texas. I’m beginning to wonder what is going on, if it walks like a duck! Anyone interested www.ens@usgs.gov will get you all the info. on the US as well as the world.
Since I posted this questipn there has been a 5.1 in Greese, 5.7 Santa Cruz Islands, a 5.5 in Argentina and a 6. in Guatamala. Plus many small ones. What do you say ot a 4.0 in New Mexico.
Your right about CA but I’m talking about not just the ones in CA, I’m talking about Yellowstone Park, and other places. I do hope your right that all these little ones is releasing pressure and not putting more pressure on the faults, because if it’s adding pressure we’re (the world) going to be in trouble.

I had been a little skeptical about that until the late 1980’s. I live in the midwest where we have some quakes, the New Madrid Fault. I lived next to a house where there was a dog and I had an 8 week old puppy.
3 minutes or so before the 4.5 or so quake, the other dog, a hound, started to howl, and I thought it was sick (it was old) and my puppy literally jumped up in my arms. I thought she was reacting to the other dog’s howling. Just then I felt something and heard a roar, like a loud engine or something, but did not really realize it was a quake at first. I went inside a minute later and my Mom said, "Did you feel the earthquake"? A minute later radio and tv were talking about the quake. This was in St. Louis in 1987 or 1988. It was probably less than a 5 on the Richter scale. But the dogs reacted a full minute-3 minutes ahead of time.

for science we needed to answer these questions… can any one help? our science teacher gave us this site to work with: quake.wr.usgs.gov/study/

For CA- how many [earthquakes] in the last hour?
how many in the last day?
what is the magnitude of the largest?

what is the location and magnitude of the quake nearest to us on the US map? where in the US are there the most earthquakes? the least? what dates are covered for this listing?

How many earthquakes occurred on the most recent month (8-30 days)?
Where in the world are most of the earthquakes located?

For significant quakes give the following:
highest magnitude- number, location
deepest focus location (in earth)- how deep?
closest to surface
caused the most damage

I live in Washington state, and receive notifications from the USGS about earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest area. There have been a series of quakes off the Oregon coast over the past 10 days or so – the largest was a 5.2. I’m not a geologist by any stretch of the imagination, but I was watching the news last night, and a short piece on the quakes mentioned that this kind of series of quakes is usually associated with volcanic eruptions. Of course, right now, there IS no volcano in that region; is it possible that we’re about to see a new one begin? I’d be curious to know what people educated in this sort of science think – thanks!
Btw – I’m not "worried" about it or anything; I’m just wondering if it’s POSSIBLE. I certainly think it would be fascinating to see if it occurs, but I have no idea if that’s possible. I do remember MANY years ago (I’m 53) the process of a volcano (in the Atlantic, I think) turning into an island; it was documented in something like Life or National Geographic, but I was much too young at the time to do much more than look at the pictures.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Maps/10/230_45.php
Ok – yeah, I know about the Cascade volcanoes, of course (I can look out my window and see Rainier, after all…). I guess it’s just that the USGS folks are saying there’s no volcano in the immediate area of the quakes, so I’m wondering if it’s reasonable at all to think that another one MIGHT form. Of course, I know it would take an EXTREMELY long time to form to the size of a Rainier or a St. Helens, but *could* this be the start of a new one?

Could North Korea’s Nuclear blast testing be making all this weird weather in California and Mexico and everywhere? Could it be that maybe they’ve been testing for months, and finally Mother Earth is exploding with fury, I think all bad weather and quakes are because NORTH KOREA is using nuclear bombs under the ground…wake up world before it is too late!!!!!! I need ANSWERS!

I asked a question the other day about whether anyone thought the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) might be used to explain away Rapture at some point in time? I don’t think anyone really understood my question but it could be I didn’t quite word it right either. I definitely didn’t mean to imply that the LHC would cause the Rapture and I think that’s how it came across. I know that the Rapture will be an act of God alone, but, I do not believe that all prophecy refers to what God Himself will do. A great many prophecies have already been fulfilled due to the actions of mankind, such as wars, and the reestablishment of the State of Israel.

At any rate….

… in checking the news this last 24 hours since they kicked the big bang gadget into gear, there have been a dozen earthquakes registering 5.0 or higher. That’s as many as there were in the 96 hours (FOUR days) prior to the experiment and there have been twice as many registering 6.0 or higher in that same 24 hour period as in the 96 hours (FOUR days) before.

Hokkaido, Japan Region (6.9)
Halmahera, Indonesia (6.6)
Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge (6.6)
Southern Iran (6.1)
Tarapaca, Chile (5.8)
Hokkaido, Japan Region (5.4)
Simeulue, Indonesia (5.4)
Western Xizang (5.2)
Simeulue, Indonesia (5.1)
Hokkaido, Japan Region (5.0)
Western Xizang (5.0)

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/quakes_all.html

After noting this I found it leading me to the following scripture.

Mat 24:7 – For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and EARTHQUAKES, in divers places.

Since earthquakes have been known to cause many other disasters, what do you think? By doing this experiment could scientists have accidentally set off a series of underground activities that will lead to the fulfillment of this and other prophecies?
Katya – are you saying you know everything that’s going happen for the next thousands years? hmmm…

TMM – fanatics? Gee, that’s pretty nasty considering I just asked a question.

Manuel – On the contrary, there were exactly the number of earthquakes in the four days prior to the experiment combined as I stated above. Please check again because I loaded them into a database to confirm this.

Donut Tim – Is that so? Would you care to provide even one piece of evidence to support your statement?

Ninja – This is a Yahoo!! R&S question, not a thesis for my doctorate. *LOL*

Mark – I’m guessing since you obviously don’t know God, you pretty much don’t have a clue what he would think. ;)

That is something that havent seen it before,i mean, this is much!.With a tremble of 5.5 it seems pretty ugly, now in Indonesia which have it every time an earthquake, not a tremble,a earthquake, which means that probably it would be casualities for this event.
Can someone explain about this,i mean,is this normal what is happening??

Has anyone been following up on it lately? There has been about a good 100 to 200 or so, most small. Here’s a list:

http://quake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Maps/115-33_eqs.htm

Its in a geothermal area near a dormant volcano. Its getting annoying aside from nerve racking trying to sleep at night.
Here’s a recent report of earthquakes, man they just keep coming, gah, I hope its just easing pressure off of San Andreas.

Recently, there was a huge earthquake in the Indonesia island of Java. A fewdays later, there is another in the Philippines.

Are the 2 quakes related? Both Java and the Philippines are on the same plate, the Eurasia Plate.

Does the moon also have an effect on the earthquakes? This is because yesterday was the new moon.

what’s so unstable in that area?… is that a prime subduction zone, or is there volcanic activity to come or was in the past ?…. this is a couple doozies to have happened so near each other in a short time, yes?…. here’s the USGS site’s report..

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/eqinthenews/2007/us2007hear/

. and this quake was only five miles deep?.. isn’t that pretty shallow?….
on page two, I just learned about the Toba volcano on Sumatra…. looks like it could be deep doo-doo over there if these quakes wake that booger up…..any chance of that , ya think?….

I mean, the tectonic plates around the world are always under pressure until enough builds to break them loose (thus the earthquake), so why don’t huge earthquakes shake things up enough to "help" quakes break loose all over?

I know. Go ahead. Laugh at my simplistic views of plate tectonics and my obvious lack of knowledge thereof. It’s OK. I just want to hear what people say.

And by bigger I mean stronger earthquakes, or volcano eruptions from active volcanos. Along the San Andreas fault line, could this mean a bigger quake?

I was watching Fox news and it said that there were 25 (or some number like that) earthquakes in California in the past two months.

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/
Recent earthquakes

By the way, I haven’t been keeping track to earthquakes as much as I used to..I was unsure if all of the quakes in Cali were common or not (like if this sort of thing happens all the time).

I am considering moving to the Bay Area of California, and I know they region is criscrossed with earthquake faults. But, how much of a risk is it REALLY? Is there risk of ending up homeless after massive damage? How much do residents worry about quakes on a regular basis?

I also had a similar one 2 months prior to the Northridge quake. I wrote a letter to the Times, and they later mentioned it in an article about psychic tools of predicting earthquakes.

This recent dream was much more devastating, and I’ve again sent a detailed letter, (Registered), to the Mayor’s Office.

The 4 page missive and a copy of the Times article and letter (Northridge) will be sold on eBay Thanksgiving Day, with full proceeds to be given to the Red Cross, Los Angeles Chapter.

Those living in or near the Riverside epicenter should go to Las Vegas before it hits.

It eclipses all US quakes ever recorded.

There is just some things that are not sitting right with me about all this earthquake stuff. Last week’s earthquake was very strange and there were some strange things that I noticed after the quake. A lot of low flying military-type airplanes, aftershocks that are downgraded minutes after they happen. There was a report of someone from Scott Airforce Base found dead in his home after a "Standoff" the night of the quake, but it was never reported in the news until 4 days later? I’ve noticed a lot of mini-quakes along the New Madrid fault line, where normally there is just a couple a week that show up on the map. Then there’s the Reno quakes….. don’t even get me started on that (Area 51)….. Does anyone else share my feeling that there is something more to these quakes? Tell me your thoughts…. Even if you think I’m a crackpot!

Just seems like a lot of siesmic activity in strange places worldwide. You can look at the map at the USGS link and see odd quakes on the altantic side of Africa, and many in the central and eastern US not to mention an unusually excessive amount in the western US. There are many more than typical all along the ring of fire.

Check out the hourly updated map and share your opinion on it.
