This is the best house value I’ve seen…
We are trying to take advantage of the housing market and there is a very nice property in Sylmar up by the mountains w/ a beautiful view.
BUT in danger of fire and earthquakes…What bothers us more is restricted area right outside our doorstep…restricted due to a fault line.
How dangerous is it to be living by the fault line and what is the probability that this house will get destroyed in our lifetime? Thank you

Knowing that large dams have and can cause earthquakes.does it sound reasonable to make the connection
between the recent quakes,and the stress that the dam and
resiviour are placing on the crust?
Maybe the stress transfered to a weaker fault line and ruptured it.It also could be a contributing factor in the strength
and high number of aftershocks.
I would like to hear good solid answers to this question.I am

I heard through the grape vine that there is a fault line deep down in the crust in the southern central part if minnesota near mankato. I don’t know if ths is true or not, but it is part of a snow belt that we have herethat always gets hit hard with snow every year. Just wondering if they are not possibly a hundred percent true.

My property value increased but the fault line runs behind my house. It’s one of the biggest fault lines in the US/Houston. I was told that if I’m not right atop it, It wouldnt make a difference in value. Well, My driveway is fairly new and we see more cracks each year on our front patio. One house is so F’d up that it looks broken. Are they full of crap?

What would happen if a nuclear bomb went off directly on a fault line, say in California? Would the entire state (or western seaboard for that matter) become an island or even disintegrate?
What would happen to that region of the earth?
Better yet, what would happen if a nuke was planted inside of the fault line and went off?

I am looking at a home to purchase that has the Long Point fault line crossing under the dining room and part of the kitchen. I have spoken with a company that has given me a bid to level the foundation. But, I am concerned about future resale value. The Long Point Fault is common knowledge in West Houston but does it destroy value? Anyone with experience in this area?
