In regards to a seismograph’s location, does the p-s interval get larger or smaller with the increasing distance from the epicenter?

A) The epicenter is calculated after the all the aftershocks of an earthquake are plotted. It is the statistical center of the earthquake. The focus is the spot of first motion of the rocks.
B) The epicenter is where the energy is first released and the focus of the earthquake is where most of the damage is done
C) The focus of the earthquake is were surface waves are first detected while the epicenter is where the P and S waves are detected.
D) The epicenter is the spot on the Earth’s surface directly above the focus.

I’ve been warned that an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude will hit where I live. The epicenter is a bit far but what if you live on the fault line? Will it be very strong? What happens if there are high-rise buildings on top of a fault line but not directly on the epicenter? Will it fall/topple down? My parents work in high-rise buildings near the fault line. I’m really scared. Thanks 🙂

well i bought an epicenter at a yard sale and the remote doesnt have the correct cable so where can i get one and what is the cable called? the cable looks like a a phone cable but those dont work..

I only know that Richter scale 3 will shake 0.1 mm at a distance of 100 kilometer. It increases by ten fold for each Richter scale magnitude. Give example how it will vary according the distance of epicenter. They say it is Inverse Square of the distance. Please explain with a model calculation. If an earthquake is measured from a distance of 2000 kilometers from epicenter and if the magnitude is 9 in Richter scale what will be the maximum shaking. Will the S wave pass through sea water.?

in my literature class, we are making this big map of Hiroshima and where the the people are from the epicenter of the bomb. We need to know the exact location in order to put it on the map..i dont mean the exact location but the area…so???

My family and friends have been hit hard because of the 2010 baja california earthquake. The magnitude was greater than the Haiti earthquake. Although the death toll doesnt compare at all, the damage done is unbelievable. Most of my family members live in Ejido Oaxaca, Mexico, which was right next to the Epicenter. I want to setup a website so people can donate money which can be helpful for Food and water. We have had a couple of phone calls to them and they said that the gallon of water has sky rocketed in the local markets to 60 pesos which is about 6 dollars. People dont have this kind of money so they need our help…

i know how to find the time and all but i dont know how to use the earth science reference table for the epicenter
for example if the time is 1:40 seconds what is the distance from the epicenter.
can you please explain the steps? thanks
