I live in south texas and there’s a hurricane coming.
My dad doesn’t want the dog inside our house and I want to protect him from the hurricane.
What should I do?
Do animal shelters allow us to leave them there for some time until the hurricane leaves or what can I do?

I am going to live with my dad soon for about 6 weeks. He lives right on the coast of southern North Carolina (3 minute walk from the ocean). I am a bit worried about what would happen in the case of a hurricane. What can I do to be prepared? I know that my dad and stepmom have the basics like food/water and emergency supplies or whatever but what can I do? I am 17, almost 18 by the way and I will have my own car there. Also, what happens in the case of a hurricane evacuation? Advice from someone who has experienced it? Thanks for your help!

Share your experiance.

Once i was at my cottage and a large tornado was coming our way. My dad saw it while he was fishing and quickly came running to the cottage to get us into the car. Luckily we survived and i was only 5 when this happened.

She is going to Colorado to visit her boyfriend for a few days. If she goes, I have to go, but I don’t want to be around her boyfriend, or sit in one of her boyfriends friends houses all day while shes with him. My dad is an alcoholic, hes out of the picture.
Her reasons for me not staying home:
She’s going through a divorce and doesn’t want my dad having anything against her
Something bad might happen (robber, earthquake, etc)

I have family close by so if anything bad did happen, i could call them. im 16. How do I convince her?
My dad is out of the picture. My grandparents work. The family close by have 3 kids and no room for another person/

It was on in the 90′s. There were two kids (a boy and a girl) and a dad. They lived in a treehouse in a different world with dinosaurs. I think they fell through a crack or canyon or something that opened up in an earthquake. I want to say there was another girl there later who was dressed like a cave woman… Thanks in advance!

Could you please critique this essay for history? It is about interviewing somebody about a world event.

Even though it only lasted 10 to 15 seconds, this event killed 63 people, injured 3,757 many people homeless, and an estimated six billion in damages. So when I told my dad about the project he immediately chose the date October 17th, 1989, for the Universal Essay where he talked about the 7.0 magnitude Loma Prieta.
On that day, October 17th, 1989, my dad wasn’t doing anything interesting like most people; he was just taking a nap. At a friend’s appartment in San Jose, he was sleeping on the couch like I would expect him to do today. At twenty-five years old, he was new to California and didn’t except many surprises, so he was in for a surprise. At 5:04 my dad woke up, to the breaking of a glass, and looking out the window he saw the tree’s shaking vigorously, and the walls of the apartment jolting. He remembers staring at a glass vase when it fell and broke. It dawned on him that it was an earthquake, and he looked for cover. In panic he said, he dove under the couch however it would only fit his head.
After the earthquake was over, his friend came back to see if he was okay, and his head was stuck underneath the sofa. So after he got out, he saw that a lot of things broken like, the glass that fell to the floor that woke him up. He then remembers rushing outside and seeing everybody out, some with scrapes and bruises, but overall it was okay. There were lots of helpful people the time after that, handing out food, and water. Everyone was so nice, talking to strangers, and helping one another out. Mostly he forgot because he was drossy from the nap.
I think my dad was a fair source of information because he did tell me what he was doing, and the event in a picture that I could understand. He told me somewhat of what the room looked like, and understood the event he did by telling me details of the details of the quake. The thing that didn’t make him an excellent source was because he was sleeping until the event, so he wasn’t fully conscious while witnessing it. My first reaction to my dad’s story was laughter, because I couldn’t imagine him getting stuck under a sofa, panicking, or as a twenty-five year old. But after I got over that fact, and saw how many people died, it was very sad, however he went on about how everybody was so kind after, it was very uplifting to know that the people were so unselfish. Even though this event was still a tragedy, the Loma Prieta earthquake can also be seen as a heartwarming story where not only thousands of Californians worked and helped together in a disaster, but the rest of the United States watching and aiding them.

THANKS :D
Hailei

Okay so, whenever I bring up the subject of our baby, he either just says "yeah", changes the subject, or whatnot. This pregnancy was unplanned as I was on birth control, but the minute i found out I was excited — he wasn’t. He has adjusted since then and knows he’s gonna be a dad and that he’ll be in the picture. The thing is, whenever I bring up a baby topic, he doesn’t wanna talk about it. He has no interest of going to any doctor apointments, seeing the ultrasound pictures, or even watching the videos I made of my belly move like an earthquake (baby never moves when he’s around lol). I confronted him about it today and he said I should know how he feels. But the thing is, he doesn’t notice how I feel about things like that.. he said since his job is only temp, he’s worried about getting a job, and the potential job he might get requires him to be out of town, maybe even out of state for schooling for a while and he’s scared i’d leave him.
We’re both in our 20s and adults and I’m trying to convince him that we’re in a serious relationship and it just doesn’t end like that if our feelings are true. But nonetheless, tonight he said he’s upset and wants to be alone right now..
How can i possibly deal with this?? I’m not looking for hand-to-hand support, but i feel like he resents me because of the baby and when i ask him about it, he gets upset..

I just need help with mistakes and the like.

My phobia, the thing that terrifies me the most, is earthquakes. The millions of people that live in California, let alone on the West Coast, fearing earthquakes may not seem so irrational. Earthquakes have happened. Earthquakes have killed. Earthquakes will happen. So why the use of the word “phobia” if my fears have valid reasons behind them? It is not whether or not my fears are sound or not, but rather my reaction to the earthquakes. All my problems started with one event, problems the likes of which still plague me to this day.

In 1994, an earthquake rocked most of Southern California. The earthquake and the damage it caused could be felt for miles from the epicenter in the San Fernando Valley, and clocked in at a whopping 6.7 on the Richter scale. I was only three at the time, but I can still remember that day vividly. I woke up to my uncle, who had been staying with us at the time, yelling at me. My bed was halfway across the room from where it had been when I had fallen asleep. My parents got to me just seconds after my uncle with my mom screaming for me and running after my dad. It was chaos as we tried to get out of the house. Glasses, plates, pictures, all seeming to fall on to of us, falling from their respective shelves and shattering on the floor. It was no wonder that no one had noticed my dad’s foot had started bleeding profusely until we were safely outside. For weeks after that day, I had nightmares and would often und up in my parents’ bed.

Nightmares weren’t the only thing that has resolved from that night. Since then, anytime there have been earthquakes or aftershocks or anything that even feels like an earthquake, I freak out. Immediately, I start to feel weak and shaky. I become fidgety for the rest of the day, and there is nothing I can do to calm down. There is nothing else that can terrify me so, and, in fact, as the years go by, it seems as though my fears have increased rather than be assuaged by time. The interesting thing about my reaction is the fact that I only seem to get these “symptoms,” for lack of a better word, when the earthquakes occur and after the entire ordeal. In between, in every other crisis or danger I have faced, I remain calm, cool, and collected. Only in the face of an earthquake do I freak out.

Most people get over their fears when they exist because of natural disasters. The people may still have an aversion to the things that remind them of the event that they have lived through, however, they tend to become used to the dangers that go with living in the region. And then there’s me. I still have my fear of any and all earthquakes, no matter how small. My sister accidentally bumping my bed while in my room for some reasons or my dogs jumping on my bed have me waking up, already on high alert. Every time I get worked up, I assure myself that everything is fine, that I am overreacting, and that I won’t act in such a manner the next time. Every time I get worked up, I forget the promise I made last time. In fact, over time, my fear seems to increase despite my effort to rein it in just slightly. Albeit, this has occurred over many years, and only slightly at that. While many other phobias interfere with people’s lives, mine has yet to do so. As such, I have little reason to for fully getting over my fear. Yes, I flip out when I believe there to be earthquakes, but it only occurs every so often, and I have yet to be incapacitated by it. I have only really freaked out at home, anyways. Nothing too embarrassing … yet.

Regardless of whether or not I have been embarrassed by my fear, the fact of the matter remains. An earthquake in 1994 scared me so thoroughly that I can still feel its repercussions, but not so much so that I have felt the need to get professional help. Perhaps, one day, in the near future, preferably before the next earthquake takes place, I will move to someplace else (Europe, maybe) where another phobia will replace my current fear of earthquakes.

Belleville, IL 10:19 a.m., CST

Did everybody feel this last aftershock? 5 hours after the first quake and we just had another small aftershock come through.. This one was smaller though and shorter… I hope this is the end of this stuff!!!

My mom was talking to her friend in Indiana and her friend screamed and asked her if she felt it, 6 seconds later the wave had reached us in Illinois…
Son’s dad is a Dr. off of Ballas in St. Louis – says he didn’t feel it at his office… he says he was up (Wildwood, MO) for the first one but didn’t feel it either… he must be brain dead….

In middle school I read a book that was part of the A.R. program. It was a while back, and I’ve read many books since then as you can imagine. I’m having trouble remembering the name. I remember it being something like a sentence. The cover showed the sky and the left side showed the right side of a girl’s face and the right side was palm trees and the the title. It was written downward. The book was about a girl who never knew much about her father until her mother died, I think from some type of illness, and then she’s sent to live with him. He’s a movie star and single. She has to fly out to California. I remember she rides in a limo from the airport. The house is big. The girl has many dreams about her mother, tries to email her. One saved her from an earthquake late one night. That same night she realizes or tells that she knows her dad is gay. It was inferred he was in a relationship with the butler, or house help, I forget the man’s position. It’s a simple book, very nice.

For those who’ve heard about the latest earthquakes at Yellowstone…

who else is freaking out that the super volcano is going to erupt at any time?

I’ve been having nightmares. It’s 3am and I can’t get to sleep, I’m actually shaking. Anyone else know about this? Is a super volcano eminent?
I feel really silly about being scared, but a friend told me it was going to happen like in the next few months, and I read online that a super volcano explosion would mean the end of the world basically. I’m really scared. i’m only 15. I don’t want the world to end yet. I’m not even allowed to date till I turn 16 in July
thanks to the three answers. i feel a little better. And it seems the activity has slowed down, and possibly stopped.

Scientists dont’ seem all that concerned, and neither does my dad. he’s the smartest guy in the world IMO. (sometimes. LOL) and my mom tells me kids my age shouldn’t worry about such deep issues.

I guess i’ll try to relax. i don’t know which answer to pick as best, so I’ll leave it up to a vote unless there’s a tie.

thanks again.

There’s this girl whose house is destroyed from earthquake, so she moves in with her dad’s friends, who have a mansion and 2 sons, both of whom are geniuses. Background characters have literally no faces. One of the sons has baby pictures of him wearing girl’s attire. Does this ring a bell to anyone? Por favor?

I think mines would be when I dreamt that that my dad was the leader of a cult. And he told me that in order to follow in his footsteps and become the leader of the cult also I would have to chop off my legs. So I ended up chopping them off and going around in a wheelchair for the rest of my life… only later to realize that my dad never chopped of his legs and had two perfectly good ones. I was so furious! I woke up crying and everything hahaha. Probably in second place would be when I dreamt I woke up and saw San Francisco after the next "big on" (as in earthquake) from my house (I live on a hill and have a view of the whole city, well like downtown and the bridge and other parts). It was all in ruins it was so scary. Tell me about yours.

Just today my mom's workplace had a huge donation party. I hear it was awesome. They raised about 4,000. People cooked, brought items, and made crafts/jewelry and sold them. I wish I was there. I love jewelry. My mom donated and my dad donated .

What about you guys?
Are you kind enough?
(If not, look at some of the devastating pictures).
