Haiti,Chile now im scared California is next and i get the feeling it will be a big one. Is there going to be a big earthquake in California anytime soon? How much damage would it do and what should I do because i live in California?
What kinds of “earthquake measures” (precautions) are communities taking to ensure that a big earthquake will cause the least amount of damage?

So, what is it about. I’ve tried looking it up. But my computer is being an ace. Any information you have on this, BIG EARTHQuake that’s suppose to happen, is good. Like when, and how big or anything like that.

I’m sorry for the length but I really need advice. My husband is planning on donating a kidney to his best friend, and we’ve had so many arguments about this it may be breaking up our marriage. I don’t know if I am just being selfish or if I should really talk him out of it?
"Ace" and my husband met while they were in HS and became best friends right away. My husband was a ward of the state since he was 6, and never having any family of his own, considers his friends to be the closest thing he has to family. When my husband was ejected from the group home upon his 18th birthday, Ace’s family took him in for a few months until he could find a job. A couple years later when the big earthquake hit our state, my husband’s rental place was uninhabitable and Ace and his family again took him in for a few months. Ace’s family is by no means wealthy so my husband has never forgotten their kindness.
Over the subsequent years (we’re both in our 30s now), my husband worked his way through college and has a succesful career. While we’re not wealthy, we are comfortably middle class. Ace works full time but in a dead end job and goes paycheck to paycheck. Ace also has custody of a teenage son whom he himself had while a teenager, so we know that Ace does not have much disposable income. Periodically Ace will ask to borrow money from my husband, usually a couple hundred dollars and on 1 or 2 occasions, over a thousand. Many times my husband will tell Ace to not pay him back and to consider it a gift. My husband also has on a few occasions treated Ace and his family to weekend trips. While I’m not necessarily happy with this, I can understand where my husband is coming from. I was a teenage runaway myself and understand what it’s like to not have any family. However, like my husband, I worked very hard to put myself through college and to change my life for the better while many of our other friends just accepted their lives as status quo. So while I don’t condone Ace asking us for money all the time, I look the other way when my husband does it.
The problem now is that Ace has asked my husband to donate a kidney. Ace has had renal failure since he was a teenager. He received a kidney transplant from his brother when he was in his early 20s, but due to being immature and irresponsible (drugs, drinking, smoking) within 4 years, that kindey also failed. Ace will not die without a new transplant, but is currently on dialysis which I know is draining and life altering. He tires easily and is limited in his activities. Ace does not have any other family memberes who are a match, but his live-in girlfriend of 8 years is one. However, she will not donate a kidney unless Ace promises to marry her, since she has been taking care of both Ace and his son for the past 8 years and he still will not propose.
Now Ace is asking my husband to donate a kidney. At first when Ace asked him to get tested to see if he was a match, my husband told me not to think too much about it because potentially he wouldn’t be a match then it’s a non-issue. As it turns out, my husband is a match and now Ace is calling him constantly asking for the kidney. I had a heart to heart talk with my husband and asked him how he truly feels. My husband said he does not really want to do it but feels he cannot say "no" to Ace. I then told him that essentially he is willing to risk death all because he can’t say no? Now the fighting has ensued.
I’m mad at Ace for even asking my husband to do this. I feel that if my husband had really wanted to do this, he would have offered to get tested rather than being hounded to do it. Furthermore, Ace lays guilt trips on my husband and constantly reminds him how they’re "brothers" who grew up together. I’m also bothered that Ace already had a transplant and failed to take care of himself so whose to say he would not repeat the same with my husband’s kidney? Also, I suspect the reason he will not propose to his girlfriend is that after he is back to full heath, I think he might want to "trade up" so to speak (she is a great girl but not the best looking and he has a reputation for being a Casanova). That makes me even more mad that he can be so superficial when supposedly he is in such desperate need. My husband thinks I am being insensitive to the fact that Ace and his family helped him out when he was younger, but I told him while I do appreciate that tremendously, helping out financially is much different than giving an organ and facing potential death. I also told my husband he should consider what would happen to his family (me) should something happen to him while on the operating table.
My husband and I have been together for 9 years and aside from this, almost always see eye to eye. I can look the other way when he dishes out money to his friends, but this I cannot stand to watch passively. I know that if I give my husband an ultimatum (me or the kidney transplant), he would choose me without a doubt. H
I forgot to mention that Ace no longer does drugs and he has quit smoking & drinking a few years ago. So to his credit, he has cleaned up his act.
I also don’t really want to give my husband an ultimatum because I feel this is a personal decision that he should make. I also feel morally like a bad person because people are born with 2 kidneys and can function fine with just 1, so why should I stop him from giving the gift of life?
From what I know, there will be a drill on thursday of this week before the big earthquake hit in California.

i heard that there’s suppose to be a really big earthquake in California coming around this week, and that the same people who predicted the China earthquake have predicted this one. And im really worried because im not prepared for an earthquake in any way.

Ok so can anybody give me some information on earthquakes? I’m studying abroad this year in Italy around 40 miles from where the big earthquake was the other day. Anyway what I’m wondering is if anybody knows if it’s normal that keep having big shakes. Some are being classes as aftershocks obviously but we’ve had 3 more above 5.0 on the Richter scale, with the last being only around 20mins ago. Is this normal? And if so and it is just the settling of the ground how long can we expect major shakes for? I’m really scared! these apartment blocks swaying like they are all the time is really frightening, I can’t sleep and I live on the 5th floor so it feels really dangerous up here. I’ve just found out that the last quake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale and like i say this was only a short while ago, what can I do to make myself feel better?!

Thanks the geologist that’s helpful. Well as I live on the 5th floor I’m not thinking about exit strategies because I heard you shouldn’t go into the internal stairwell. This may sound stupid but I thought I may put a mattress on top of my bathtub with a couple of bottles of water etc inside then if I feel another one get in under the mattress. Is this a really stupid idea or not?

One day Billy Bob was living a normal life in his home in New York City, New York. It was a white house in urban New York City. He had just come home from work and was looking forward to a quiet evening. His work was being a construction worker building houses for people. He was watching Sports Center when suddenly he felt the ground shake. He didn’t think it was anything because earthquakes did not happen in New York City. He knew that there were no fault lines to cause earthquakes in New York City. Then the shaking became more violent. Then things were falling over in his house. He went outside and looked at everything outside falling down. He quickly went into his crawlspace and waited until the earthquake was over. The earthquake went on for three hours. When he went outside to check on what happened he found everything to be toppled over, except for his house. His house was just recently all by himself built so that was probably why his house was the only building standing because he was a good construction builder..
He watched the channel 5 news and found out that approximately 292 buildings had been destroyed. The earthquake was a 4.5 magnitude on the Richter scale. It was not a big earthquake. He then began helping rebuild the city because he was a construction worker who built houses. He knew that it would take about a half a year to rebuild all of the damage that was caused by the earthquake. Something that nobody could figure out was why the earthquake happened. There were no fault lines near New York to cause the earthquake. The place earthquakes would make sense would be California because the San Andreas Fault is there. How could an earthquake occur without any fault lines for the earthquake to occur? That’s what all of the meteorologist were wondering after the earthquake happened. The city was rebuilt in about 66 months.
About 2 weeks after the city was rebuilt Billy Bob was outside building a house in Junee. He was building a very large house in a very large neighborhood. He saw on the weather that it was about 83 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature with the humidity was unbearable. After he was done he went home. When he was about to go inside he noticed that it felt a lot colder. Then the temperature was rapidly dropping. He looked at the barometer in his house and it said it was 21 degrees Fahrenheit. He quickly shut all of the doors and windows so no cold air would come into the house. On the news it said that everywhere in the US the weather was rapidly dropping. None of the meteorologists could figure out why the weather was dropping so rapidly or why it was dropping at all. He went to bed a few hours later. The next day when he looked what the temperature was, he found out that it was negative 150 degrees Fahrenheit. He made sure to stay inside and keep the heat up as high as possible so he would not freeze to death inside his home. Nobody could figure out why the weather was so cold. But then about a week later the weather was back in the 80’s. All of the meteorologists were wondering why the weather was so messed up.
The weather stayed the same for the next 5 months. Everyone in New York and the US was getting back to their normal lives. But then the meteorologists were predicting bad storms. They were predicting an extremely bad thunderstorm. Everyone started to rush into stores and get supplies for when they were going to leave New York City before worse storms happen. A lot of things get broken and stolen in stores. People also fight to get supplies and a lot of people get injured in the stores. It was like the store had been destroyed because of all of the damage to everything inside the stores. Fortunately Billy Bob gotets out of New York and into Chicago. But other people weren’t so lucky. About half of the people in New York City escaped New York. The streets were empty because of the people that left. About 5 days after some people left he got into Chicago he heard on the news it said that a much larger earthquake had just happened in New York. It was estimated that 3,500 buildings were destroyed in the massive earthquake. The magnitude of this earthquake was 10.0. It was the biggest earthquake ever recorded. They showed pictures of how New York City looked like. It was just destroyedin ruins because of how big the earthquake that happened was. There is also a fire still going on in New York City that doesn’t look like it will stop soon. Then as the meteorologists predicted an extremely bad thunderstorm started and there was even more damage to everything. New York City was in ruins. And if that wasn’t enough there are tidal waves crashing into New York City from the side of New York City adding to all of the damage that had already happened..it.
Billy Bob decided that he would stay in Chicago until he is absolutely sure the storms have ended. But he wasn’t sure that the storms would end. The fire and the tidal waves and the thunderstorm lasted for about 3 days
The fault was a normal fault formed by the crust being pulled apart, due to the pull of a divergent plate boundary. The cold weather happened when global warming causes large areas of the Greenland and Iceland ice shelves to break off and melt, diluting the Atlantic Ocean with large amounts of fresh water. This slows the Gulf Stream causing a rapid cooling of the Northern Hemisphere. Since plates are always moving they rub against each other in some places sink beneath each other in others, or spread apart from each other (like the Mid-Atlantic Ridge).
After all of that New York City looked like a warzone from all of the damage. Billy Bob hopeds that the storms have ended for good because he is tired of all of the stress of the storms. Billy Bob knows that he will probably not move into New York again because New York City is dilapidated. After about a year of staying in Chicago he was convinced that the storms had caused too much damagestopped for good and went back to New York Citydecided he would never go back to New York City. None of the buildings were still standing
The city was in ruins. It would probably take years and years to rebuild back to what it used to be before the storms. Billy Bob found a job as a construction worker who built houses in Chicago.. He decided to just go back to Chicago and live there for the rest of his life because it would be impossible to live with everything in ruins. In the end meteorologists figured out that the earthquakes happened because of a fault line they found running through New York. The reason nobody knew about the fault was because that it just formed about 5 years ago and just now started to have an earthquake there.
At such places the motion isn’t smooth–the plates are stuck together at the edges but the rest of each plate is continuing to move, so the rocks along the edges are distorted. As the motion continues, the strain builds up to the point where the rock cannot withstand any more bending. With a lurch, the rock breaks and the two sides move. An earthquake is the shaking that radiates out from the breaking rock. Billy Bob went on to live the rest of his life in peaceiece in Chicago where he lived for the rest of this life.
and if it did crack then what would happen to LA and Hollywood and San Diego and San Fransico? lol Would everybody just sink and die? If people know the san andreas fault line will crack someday during a big earth quake then why do people in these places?
I bet someday in the far future in hundreds of years all that land will sink after a big earthquake and it will become a very famous for people to explore underwater cities.

California, The Earthquake Yesterday
A big earthquake with the strength of 8.1 on the Richter scale has hit Mexico. Two million Mexicans have died and over a million are injured. The country is totally ruined and the government doesn't know where to start with providing help to rebuild. The rest of the world is in shock.
Canada is sending troops to help the Mexican army control the riots. Saudi Arabia is sending oil. Other Latin American countries are sending supplies. The European community (except France) is sending food and money. The United States, not to be outdone, is sending two million replacement Mexicans. God Bless America!
