Earthquake Questions
an average movement of about 5m(16ft) along the san andreas fault was associated with the devastating 1906 san fransanciso earthquake that killed people and destroyed properties. assuming that all displacement along the fault was produced by earth motions of this magnitude, how often must such earthquakes have occurred in order to account for the total displacement?

You’ve left out one of the pieces of data. From the information given there is no possibility of an answer.

It would be better to ask your geology lab teacher this. It will serve you better in the future to have him/her teach you HOW to figure this answer out than to have someone just give you the answer…

You can’t figure that without having both the movement for the 1906 event and the total displacement, and you must have the amount of time it took for the total movement. You only gave data for one of those.
