If you think is too expensive for you, keep in mind that if something happens to house due to an earthquake and you have to demolish/rebuild due to structural (or foundation) damage...it wouldn't be covered in your current home policy. Just ask folks in the Marina District who live nearly 70 miles from the epicenter of the Lome Prieta Earthquake on the San Andreas Fault.
