Is there a ground-based way to measure solar flares?

I like keeping tabs on stuff and one thing ive picked up is looking at latest earthquakes recorded on the usgs website. i was wondering if there was a site like this so keep tabs with solar activity or if there is a way i can measure myself (i highly doubt that.) any help would be great =]

You can observe an record solar flares yourself using a Hydrogen-Alpha telescope like the Coronado Personal Solar Telescope (PST):
