To figure that one out we’re going to have to compare all of our existing data for the last 1000 years all over the globe. After that we can determine what frequency of quakes means the world is going to end within a specific amount of time like a year.
Good luck on figuring out how many quakes have been going off for the last 1000 years by the way.

Maybe.

Nope.
We just have a better ability to measure and pinpoint quakes than ever before.

Is there any data that supports the notion that this isn’t normal seismic activity? Isnt it just possible that we’re paying more attention to earthquakes now, more or less because one recently flattened a country?

I can tell you with certainty that if the New Madrid fault opens up it will destroy Memphis and mass civil unrest will manifest.
It will make Katrina look like a yearly flood in Iowa.
The world may not end but day to day activity will take on a different tone for awhile.

Since 2000 there have been over 60 earthquakes per day four of which are magnitude 5.0 or higher. There’s nothing significant about it, earthquakes happen everyday.
Also, looking for a sign for the end of the world is pointless -there won’t be any. It doesn’t matter if there were a billion earthquakes this year vs. 1 in the last 10,000 years, the point is that you can’t find a sign that doesn’t exist.
