Is it possible to build a simple type of device for measuring earthquake magnitudes for home use? ?

Earthquake Questions
Yes, I know the question may seem dumb, but honestly, how would I know if I didn’t ask? Not sure if saying seismograph is proper or not.

Find ELF devices for amaters and analog-to-digital converter, plug into 15-pins VGA port or USB adapter, download Spectran software or other spectrum softwares. Set trigger alarm signal. It’s done.

or listen telemetry broadcasting wave (not music) by simple using a good radio receiver to monitor VHF telemetry from quake broadcast stations and plug-in a spectrum analyzer or PC microphone-in port with software for chart and alarm.
CA telemetry frequencies:

Can inquire Passadena center or other nearby stations for their specific frequencies.

Yes it is not dump. It is possible.I have designed several simple instruments connected with earthquakes. One such instrument is simple seismograph. Take a plastic bobbin and wind about 50 grams of enameled copper wireof 30 S.W.G on it.Suspend a magnet by a spring inside the coil wire. When ever there is a shake the movement of magnet changes its intensity in the coil and that can be measured just by using multi meter. You can also connect those coil terminal in your computer in the mike terminal and use sound card oscilloscope saft ware( Free down loadable from net ) to get it in graphical form as you get it in seismograph.Only thing you have to compare with real seismograical departmentt for the same event at the same place. Better visit my name as A.Ganapathy India in google to learn more on this.
