I want to become part of a Disaster Relief team for Red Cross or something else. How do I start this?

Years ago my mom worked at the Red Cross and since she left that job the chapter fell apart in our county and we now have no Disaster Relief team. I was wondering how I’d go about getting a job at another county working for that or if some other place offers a Disaster Relief thing where you go out of the state to help people that have been in a flood, fire or something else like that.

Go to http://www.redcross.org and find your closest chapter by putting in your zip code.
Chapters have Disaster Action Teams, which are trained to respond to local disasters (house fires, small floods, explosions, etc.) When you sign up as a Red Cross volunteer, you will be asked to sign up for the Disaster Services Human Resource system. This will track your fulfillment of training and experience requirements to be sent to regional and national disasters.
You can’t really go out of state until you’ve had local experience, usually.
