I don't know what career to choose!…?
I am 17 and I need to figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life, my career. I wanted to be an Architect, but now I’m second guessing it. I am taking it as an elective at my high school, and its a lot of fun, but I know once i get to college, theres so much more to it than just making up floor plans.
Before Architecture, I wanted to become a Meteorologist. I kinda still do. I have an interest in weather and Natural Disasters(like tornadoes and earthquakes). My mom keeps telling me she can’t picture me in either career. I’m not sure if I can either all so much now I think about it.
So, What career is for me? I like drawing, designing, deciding where things go, music, weather, sports, helping others, nature, the environment, etc. I don’t like fashion and history.
I know for one, that I don’t want to become a nurse or doctor or dentist or vet or related fields. I am like, terrified of needles and stuff like that.
Thankyou for your responses ![]()

First of all, I’d say talk with your high school guidance counselor about how to best choose your career path. There are lots of interest surveys that can help you select the fields that are most closely in line with your interests. (and include items such as "do you prefer to work with others as part of team, or individually?"
"Do you prefer to work with objects or with thoughts" etc.
Secondly, I’d suggest seeing if you can shadow an architect or meteorologist, or other career options you’ve considered. Can you go and "hang out" with someone doing that type of work for a day. With summer coming up, now might be a great time to schedule a day. When you go, dress professionally, and take with you a list of questions to ask the meteorologist or architect (or both, or other).
Ask questions such as
What classes would you recommend for me to take in college
Tell me about a typical day in your work.
Tell me about your hours of work.
Tell me what you most like about your job.
Tell me what you like least about your job.
What career advice would you give?
How does someone apply to be an architect (meteorologist, other)?
What expectations are there of a person applying for her first job in this line of work?
And you may think of many more.
As you go and shadow someone in this field, you may be able to "picture yourself" there more clearly. Or you may find out that this field is really not for you. Either way, it is better to know at 17 where you’re going than still struggling with it at 34.
Good luck in your career.
Hope this helps!

i dont know how many colleges offer this, but at my college, Austin Peay, you can take a test that will ask you about a hundred question or so. about things you like and dislike. then it will pop out about 10-20 different suggestion in careers you may be interested in. that is how i found the degree i am going after. call a local college and see if they have something like that you can take.

follow your hearts desire I’m 17 too and when I told my
mom I was going to join the marines and later the CIA she yelled and tried to beat me. I don’t. Care though I know what I want, its going to happen. So If you want to be a meterologist than do that. If you like music do something in the entertainment industry. Don’t let people control your life. If you have a passion for something then why hold back? Stand up to your parents and say its your life or else your going no where. Good luck=) email me if you need more help.
