Haiti quake, never heard of that area having quakes, what fault line is that?

The problem with these kinds of strikes is that they can remain quiescent — dormant — for hundreds of years

Earthquakes can happean anywhere, at anytime. There was a 7.2 quake in 1811. In New Madrid, Missouri.

I always thought Haiti lies on the edge of the Carribean Plate – but I could be wrong.
I haven’t heard of a quake in Haiti either – but seismic activity is actually really common in that region. This past summer, Caracas (also on the Carribean Plate) suffered a magnitude 5 or 6 earthquake.
I just fell so bad for Haitians. As if their political instability and poverty weren’t enough, they always seem to get hit byt hurricanes, tsunamis, and now earthquakes!
