First time assembling PC help?
I have a lot of experience adding on and troubleshooting PC’s and stuff. I know what components to buy and pretty much everything from overclocking to modding, but tomorrow will be the first time I will actually assemble a PC from scratch. Here are my specs:
Computer Specifications
- AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
- (x2) [SLI] PNY nVidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB GDDR3
- 4GB (2x2GB) OCZ Black Edition PC3-12800 DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
- Asus M4N98TD Evo nForce 980a AM3 SLI Motherboard
- Western Digital Black Caviar 1TB 7200RPM 32MB Cache HDD
- Corsair 850TX 850 Watt Power Supply
- Raidmax Hurricane ATX Mid-Tower Case
- LiteOn x24 DVD/CR+/- Drive
- CoolIt Eco A.L.C. CPU Cooler (Liquid Cooling)
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Basically, where should I start? Should I mount the motherboard in the case first and put everything in from there? Or should I install the CPU and RAM first and then mount the motherboard? Should the CPU installation be where the CPU will simply fall into the socket if installed correctly? Since the CPU is AM3 Socket and the motherboard is as well, will installing the CPU the wrong way will not POST but not damage any pins on the CPU? Thanks for answering all these questions =D

I always mount the CPU and RAM on the mobo first then install it in the case. The processor will only fit into the socket one way usually the little gold arrow on the processor goes to the top left of the socket. Then I attach the video card and the power to the mobo and video card and boot into BIOS and load failsafe defaults. That should make first boot device as the DVD drive Then connect the HDD and DVD and case fans. Boot into the bios again and make sure the HDD and DVD drives are recognized. Then put the OS disk in the DVD drive and away you go.
Have fun
