How can I get earthquake insurance for structure of condo?
I live in southern calif. I own a condo. the association just cut our earthquake insurance coverage, because it was too expensive. I have to buy private. I've contents insurance which pays for stuff inside my condo such as damages to painting/furniture/floors. the contents insurance does not cover damage caused by earth quake to the structure.
where can I buy insurance coverage for the structure?
thanx.

meetme, Home insurance covers lots of different things. I'm not familiar with all the fine print of my policy, but my home insurance agent is always helpful. Try calling your agent or a homeowners agent in your city. http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Home-Insurance.html They will be able to help you.

You SUE the association to make them buy coverage. You CANNOT get private insurance for the structure because you DON'T own it. The association ALWAYS owns the structure on ANY condo.

You need to talk to the agent who writes your condo insurance, which should ALSO include a small amount of structure coverage, by the way, about how to buy the earthquake coverage for your unit.
And if he's a halfway decent agent, he'll realize that the association, if they have an earthquake issue, will be ASSESSING all the unit owners – and he'll both get you earthquake coverage for YOUR unit, and "loss assessment" coverage for earthquake damage, also, so you don't get hung out to dry if there's an association uninsured loss.

You can only get earthquake insurance on your unit. Call the insurance agent that has your condo unitowner policy to see if they write earthquake insurance.
You can get earthquake insurance through the California Earthquake Association. Several companies write it. If yours doesn't you may have to switch your condo policy to a company that will also write the earthquake insurance too.
