Do you think all these recent earthquakes are the start of the end if the world?

Earthquake Questions
There has been like ten times the amount of earthquakes this month then in the last year. My facts may be wrong, but still, it’s more than usual. Do you think it’s gearing up for 2012 or some other end of the world, or is it just a natural phenomenon

Look at the earthquake statistics here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/year/eqstats.php
There are not more earthquakes than usual. These figures show that they are about average. Since Haiti, news reports of earthquakes have gone up, thanks to sensation-seeking news editors. When they lose interest, you’ll probably think that earthquake numbers have gone down.
Predictions of doom in 2012 are a bunch of fairytales, made up by people who want to sound important but didn’t take enough science in school. Every single one of their claims can easily be disproved. There will be no pole shift, Planet X/Nibiru, deadly solar storm, rare alignment, photon belt nor any other of the made-up nonsense. It’s just a heap of garbage. Earthquakes today will make no difference. Garbage is garbage.

NO… Earthquakes are happening at the same rate as they always have. The only difference is that the last few big earthquakes have occurred near large population centers…

2012 is a total hoax (and the people who believe it are st*p*d), and the number of earthquakes is only slightly higher than average. I’m not worried about it.

There are several reasons for the perception that the number of earthquakes, in general, and particularly destructive earthquakes is increasing. In the last twenty years, we have definitely had an increase in the number of earthquakes we have been able to locate each year. This is because of the tremendous increase in the number of seismograph stations in the world and the many improvements in global communications. The population at risk is increasing. While the number of large earthquakes is fairly constant, population density in earthquake-prone areas is constantly increasing. In some countries, the new construction that comes with population growth has better earthquake resistance; but in many it does not. So we are now seeing increasing casualties from the same sized earthquakes. Just a few decades ago, if several hundred people were killed by an earthquake in Indonesia or eastern China, for example, the media in the rest of the world would not know about it until several days, to weeks, later, long after such an event would be deemed “newsworthy”. So by the time this information was available, it would probably be relegated to the back pages of the newspaper, if at all. And the public Internet didn’t even exist. We are now getting this information almost immediately.
