Do you think a major natural disaster can hit Florida?

I have some concerns about moving to Florida, because of all of the natural disasters that’s been going on lately..
Do you think Florida can be hit by a tsunami or a earthquake or any other major natural disasters?
I am aware of the hurricanes, but usually they give you a head-sup on those. I am talking about disaster that people can’t "predict" hitting a certain area 100% and that will just hit without no time of warning that could help people escape?!

yes, the have history of both earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other natural disasters.
When it comes to unpredictable disaster these can basacly happend anywhere at anytime, because we can’t really control it.
Florida might be at a hight risk because of its location, but like i said there is no telling

i lived in St. Petersburg (near Tampa) for 13 years and we really never got anything until 3 months before i moved to ny. it was a small hurricane. you will get a ton of hurricane warnings and watches but thats about it. you will know when it’s time to evacuate the sky get a weird look to it. it’s like something you’ve never seen before.

Nearly any area can have some type of natural disaster so it’s pretty impossible to find an area that would be "safe". However, some areas are more prone to them than others.
Yes, Florida could suffer from a tsunami, they are bordered by oceans. There are fault lines through out the whole earth’s crust which means that any location could have an earthquake. Some areas are just more active than others.
Hurricanes, wild fires, blizzards, earthquakes, flooding can all occur just about anywhere.

It’s no different than any other city you’d move to. There has never been any Florida quakes, none that i know of anyway. Hurricanes, like Andrew and Hugo, are the natural disasters that Floridians remember all too well. I am sure Florida could be hit by a tsunami from an earthquake in Europe, or perhaps in the Carribean.

The northern edge of the Caribbean tectonic plate is ~350-400 miles from the southern tip of Florida. That is potentially close enough for a major earthquake – say one near Haiti – to be felt in part of Florida.
There is a subduction zone to the west of Haiti which could potentially generate a tsunami which would hit parts of the east coast of Florida. But there are also a lot of islands in the way.
The entire east coast of the US has the minor threat of a mega-tsunami should the western face of the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge should suddenly collapse in one catastrophic event. To the best of my knowledge, the odds on this happening are extremely small. However, the tsunami produced if it did happen could possibly be several hundred feet.
If global sea levels begin to rise significantly, Florida could lose a significant amount of land. However, this would be a very slow process and not an instant disaster.
I think the most imminent threats to Florida are hurricanes, sink holes, and tornadoes.

I have lived in South Florida for 53 years ( all my life ) been through several hurricanes , lost alot and rebuilt again. No we can’t predict what will happen here and when Andrew hit we thought it would hit 42 miles north of us until we got it head on after an unexpected turn south. Could we get a tsunami? Anything could happen , we never know . Being at sea level with no higher ground to get to or trying to get out of Florida with only 3 main highways would be insane with the thousands and thousands of people that live here. No matter where you live, there is some thing going to happen. All we can do is live life to the fullest each day and not worry about tomorrow , Mother Nature is in control not us.
