After BCT & AIT, do National Guardsmen do some sort of specific training that would prepare them for natural disasters? Since that is one of it’s missions? Or do the soldiers mostly concentrate on their MOS? Thanks for any info, just wondering.

MAYBE but generally no. Most states will do a civil support (disaster) exercise evey couple of years and different units will get tasked out for those exercises based on who is available.
Generally during a disaster they will task units based on a need that needs to be filled…i.e. MPs will get tasked to provide security or crowd control, Transportation units will get tasked to deliver supplies to shelters or evacuate people, etc, etc
No special training needed per say for most disasters…

You just train in your MOS, if you would like to practice some Natural Disaster training. Fill 5,000 sandbags cause thats about all you would be doing… =)

In Oregon where the NG can sometimes be called out to fight wildfires, some of them go thru the same training programs that the new firefighters for the State and Federal agencies attend. ( I had 6 NG members that were either officers or nco in my group when I attended that training yrs ago)
When I was in La for Hurricanes Gustav and Ike,The NG units that were assigned to our shelter as security (they were not an MP unit) didn’t receive any special training beyond what they were normally taught.
