Disaster relief idea. Can you tell me what you think?
What if there was a SUPER cargo ship that constantly roamed the oceans of the world that carried enormous amounts of supplies on it, i.e. food, water, clothes etc. Then when a disaster such as the earthquake in Haiti happens this ship could immediately head over an provide aid. It can just pull ashore seeing as how aircraft aid won help. Furthermore, this ship can sell its supliies to different countries and get replenished on a regular basis so that the supplies to get out-dated if a major event hasn’t happened in a while.
I’m visualizing something of a major carrier ship similar to something the Navy would have that would have a heliport and landing strip on top. I am sure we have some ships out there that do this now, but I a thinking of ONE go-to ship that will be THE official rescue ship. I’m talking enough suppiles to feed a major city. Does this make any sense?

Who will pay for the ship?
Who will pay for the supplies?
What if there is more than one disaster? How do you choose which to go to?
Where would the ship be based?
"it constantley roamed the oceans" It could be a long way away from where aid is needed and the cost of fuel to keep the ship going would be huge.
Who would work on the ship and keep it running?
The ship would releses alot of emmissions if it is sailing the whole time which will contribute to glbal warming.
Fuel is not a renewable source and will one day run out so keeping it running the whole time will use alot of fuel.
Unfortunatley the world revolves around money. Which makes things like this not possible. Its a sweet idea tho

Getting items to the davastated area in general is no problem, moving it close enough to the victims, is a big problem however. Your idea is a sound one however.

Your heart is in the right place but the world is too big for just one ship to "cruise." The cost of maintaining such a ship would be enormous, (fuel, maintenance, personnel, care for the personnel, etc.) Take a look at where the last large tsunami hit in Asia and where Haiti is located on the globe. The mileage is too great. It is best to respond to each disaster as it happens. There are organizations that do stockpile supplies, (UN relief and Red Cross for two) that are able to be up and running in a matter of hours.

I think we need to focus on our own ppl, we have enough problems that aren’t being solved! PPl going bankrupt, graft and greed, no health insurance, thousands living on our own streets.

We can’t save the world. As an American I find the concept particularly dubious considering all the smack many non-Americans (and Americans!) endlessly say about how evil the U.S. is and how it should stop interfering in other countries affairs. I agree 100%.
Let the new ‘Super’ power Chinese pay the bill and do the heavy lifting. Let the Euros back up their awfully big mouth and sense of moral and ethical superiority with their Euros and soldiers. Nobody better hold their breath.

There is already a super cargo ship doing that. It is called "The United States".

Large cargo ships are also slow. If your ship is, say, in Indian ocean when the disaster strikes in Caribbean, it will take more then a month for it get to the spot. Way too slow to have any value.
