Earthquake Questions
Does anyone else see this connection? Montserrat and Haiti are both in the caribbean arc. Montserrat had a major volcanic explosion on the 8th, and 4 days later the major quake in Haiti. Is the volcanic activity a precursor to possible earthquakes? I know one can not possibly predict such things. It’s kind of like the weather. Only theories. Thoughts? Theories? Scientific explanations anyone?

The same thing seems to be happening on the Pacific side as well. Plates are shifting all over the world and if it continues, there will be a lot more volcanoes and earthquakes! Interesting but also very scary.

It would not surprise me to see a developing volcano in Haiti in the the future. When we read the story of Pompeii, the first indications of the appearance of Mt Vesuvius were earthquakes. Then came some cracking of the ground (faults) followed by escaping gas and ash. From that was born a huge volcano which later erupted and buried Pompeii and its citizens alive.
