I have a lot of experience adding on and troubleshooting PC’s and stuff. I know what components to buy and pretty much everything from overclocking to modding, but tomorrow will be the first time I will actually assemble a PC from scratch. Here are my specs:
Computer Specifications
- AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
- (x2) [SLI] PNY nVidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB GDDR3
- 4GB (2x2GB) OCZ Black Edition PC3-12800 DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
- Asus M4N98TD Evo nForce 980a AM3 SLI Motherboard
- Western Digital Black Caviar 1TB 7200RPM 32MB Cache HDD
- Corsair 850TX 850 Watt Power Supply
- Raidmax Hurricane ATX Mid-Tower Case
- LiteOn x24 DVD/CR+/- Drive
- CoolIt Eco A.L.C. CPU Cooler (Liquid Cooling)
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Basically, where should I start? Should I mount the motherboard in the case first and put everything in from there? Or should I install the CPU and RAM first and then mount the motherboard? Should the CPU installation be where the CPU will simply fall into the socket if installed correctly? Since the CPU is AM3 Socket and the motherboard is as well, will installing the CPU the wrong way will not POST but not damage any pins on the CPU? Thanks for answering all these questions =D

So I live in South FL and have 2 tanks (a 10gallon and a 65gallon) very happy and well set up. But I had never thought about how to protect them in case of a hurricane. When a hurricane threatens, I usually go up north with my cat and my bird, but what do I do with the fishies? Also, the power goes out in my area, every time a hurricane comes, so the filter wouldn’t be working for at least two days until I can come back and connect it to a generator. Any ideas, I’m kinda clueless here. Thanks

I’m planning a trip to the DR in September.

I checked the National Hurricane Center website to see if they predict any Hurricanes for September, but all it says is this season will be an "Active Atlantic Hurricane Season." It doesn’t give any specific dates.

So I’m wondering how far in advance can they predict a hurricane?

Say that an hurricane hit your town and your survive it with only 7 strangers each with a different profession. Your supplies are weeks worth of food, some hardware tools, an entire suburb town full of dabre, a canal, and some medical supply how can you survive in this environment? With no electricity, soap, clean clothes, government, and some hostile people that can come and get your supplies.

How can you survive it?

It was predicted to be an above average year but so far there has been only one hurricane and a few depressions/storms. Also, the waters are supposed to be really warm and LA NINA is developing. All this should be great for hurricane formation. Why such a slow start?

I live in south texas and there’s a hurricane coming.
My dad doesn’t want the dog inside our house and I want to protect him from the hurricane.
What should I do?
Do animal shelters allow us to leave them there for some time until the hurricane leaves or what can I do?

How come Mexico is not making any offers of help or sending any aid to Haiti but they did to Texas when it was their people any reason why no help to the country of Haiti? In Texas Mexico sent food, water, medical dr’s, nurses, medical supplies, clothes, after the hurricane hit Texas and the areas had a high population of illegals but so far Mexico has not made any public offers to help out that country, Mexico has enough money to help out ? One drug cartel suitcase full of money would help out Haiti, would Mexico make a sincere effort to help out if their people were over there ?

Does it increase the intensity of the hurricane? I have also heard that if lightening would strike the oil in the water, that it could cause a fire on top of the oil? Any truth to this or is this just a rumor? Just curious. I live on the Gulf and I have heard various rumors of what could happen if we were to have a hurricane.

Lets say that the government were to supply money to a Christian faith based relief effort to help victoms of a massive earth quake or hurricane. Wouldn’t that also require them to cough up money to Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, and even Sihk organizations? It seems like they would also need to supply money to atheist organizations for atheist billboards or bus ads.

Do you hold this same view?

It seems like a bunch of conservatives in the states want to pour money to churches to get votes from conservative Christians.

Hydric acid, also called Hydronium Hydroxide, is a colorless and odorless chemical compound found in water supplies around the world, most often in large reservoirs and water treatment facilities. Its basis is the highly reactive hydroxyl radical, a species shown to mutate DNA, denature proteins, disrupt cell membranes, and chemically alter critical neurotransmitters. The atomic components of Hydric acid are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerin and Ethyl Alcohol. Tests have shown that Styrofoam and plastic cups contain the highest concentrations of Hydric Acid, with plastic bottles taking a close second. Inhalation of the compound is known to cause death, or in some cases severe brain damage. Yet, no ones doing anything about it. Furthermore, Hydric Acid has been shown to have severe impact in the environment. Post hurricane Katrina, Hydric Acid was found to have caused great loss of life in New Orleans, with many deaths attributed to exposure of the compound alone.

Considering all this, do you think we should do something to better control the environmental impact caused by Hydric Acid?
Actually, I wanted to see if I could make someone giggle. An environmentalist friend of mine sent me it in a mail.

Dust from the Sahara frequently crosses the Atlantic and wreaks havoc with the quality of air in the Caribbean. However, I don’t remember any hurricane meeting a large mass of Saharan dust. What do you think would happen?

Oil covered farmland, hospitals, water reservoirs, power generating stations. Is a response being prepared to clean people covered by Hurricane deposited oil?
If I lived in a hurricane effected are I would be making a few phone calls and sending emails.

A major hurricane is category 3 and up.
Does the house or building really shake from the wind?
I’ve heard the wind can sound like a plane taking off. Is this true?

This is kinda like a "what if" question. This is a horrible disaster, and it is hurricane season. Would oil "get" into the rain, since water evaporates, to form rain? If this did happen it would be a disaster, or is it possible it would just be like a normal hurricane, with oil having no effect at all?

I am going to live with my dad soon for about 6 weeks. He lives right on the coast of southern North Carolina (3 minute walk from the ocean). I am a bit worried about what would happen in the case of a hurricane. What can I do to be prepared? I know that my dad and stepmom have the basics like food/water and emergency supplies or whatever but what can I do? I am 17, almost 18 by the way and I will have my own car there. Also, what happens in the case of a hurricane evacuation? Advice from someone who has experienced it? Thanks for your help!

Is anybody worried about this years hurricane season? Possibly up to 23 hurricanes? It worrys me because it gives the whole gulf coast a greater risk of getting hit by a hurricane. It’s crazy. Ive been thinking about buying hurricane supplies now to be better prepared. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and I wasen’t prepared for Gustav at all and wasent too worried as it was a landfalling category 2. It ended up being the worst storm to ever hit Baton Rouge and I lost most of my roof in that storm, Along with my bathroom window and the pine trees in my yard. Should I start preparing now for possible storms this year? What are yall doing?

Now that we have massive amounts of oil in the Gulf of Mexico; what’s going to happen? Every Hurricane season we get at least one hurricane that comes in the Gulf, it’s almost inevitable. What’s going to happen this time? Will it slow it down? Will it sling oil all over 50 states? Or will we get one big tidal wave of oil coming on the beaches?

One, will the oil spill have an effect on the longevity of the season, the ferocity, or the damage caused?

Next, what will happen to the oil? I figure a lot of it will be blown depending on a potential hurricane’s path, but then do we have to deal with oil covered cities? Will the oil contaminate local water supplies?

Also, are oil rigs pre-designed to withstand a hurricane? Or is that something that we have to trust the regulators to ensure?

Finally, as of right now (the current distribution of oil), how long will it take for the cleanup to be complete? Months? Years? Decades? How long after that can we say that the environment is restored?
FYI- I put this in the Politics Section because I get answers more quickly, and they usually have better support/ sources, as biased as they may be.

I live in Florida and we are supposed to be getting ready for a bad hurricane season. We usually get everything we need, but are on a tight budget this year. I’m sure we will manage to get whatever we need, little by little, but it got me to thinking……What about the people who just don’t have the money? Have you ever seen the supply list?
Are all of you ready if a hurricane or any other major storm hits your area?

In 2004, hurricanes damaged large parts of Florida, destroying homes, businesses, schools, and infrastructure. In strictly economic terminology, these hurricanes are said to have caused

A.absolute advantages, because some areas of the country were damaged when others were not.
B. scarcity, because some goods were difficult to get.
C. shortages, because supplies were cut off and goods were destroyed.
D.scarcity, because the damages made food and shelter scarce.

I’m thinking B or D

Under rent controls

A.the quantity supplied of rental units is greater than it would be under freely competitive markets.
B.there is a severe shortage of rental units.
C. all renters are better off than under freely competitive markets.
D.there is less government involvement in rental markets overall because there is a better supply of low-income housing.

I think A or C

please don’t give me wrong answer thanks

I was just sitting here thinking about the high gas prices and the future. I drive a daily route that somedays consists of 200+ miles round trip by the time I get back home. Its my job and im glad to have one. I have cut, trimmed and am doing everything I can to counter the high gas prices.Im now just looking down the road a bit and was wondering,
"what impact would a large Hurricane or two, say a cat 4 or 5 in the Gulf do to the already high prices at the pump?"

A plane is flying over the devastated region around Jamaica after Hurricane Ivan. It will drop supplies of food and clothing to the people stranded below. The plane is flying at 20m/s horizontally and is at a height of 2km from the ground. What distance from the island does the pilot have to release the supplies so that they land on the island?

I know that the answer is 404m before reaching the island, but I don’t know how to solve it.
