I live in Northeast Columbia, South Carolina and tornadoes never occur in my area so i never experienced one and I don’t want to experience one either. So what do You do when a tornado warning is issued for your area ?

Given that the Richter scale is a base 10- logarithmic measure of the amplitude of an earthquake, determine how much stronger an earthquake that measures 6.9 is than one that measures 5.4.
How do you do this?? Explanation and answer please

We used a timing geophone but can’t remember what it was. I also cant picture what it looks like so was wondering if it is the switch that was on the hammer shaft.
i know a hammer switch is found in light switches, however there is a ‘switch’ on the shaft of the hammer. Is the technical name for this the timing geophone?

Was there an earthquake in new england or in the eastern us or canada yesterday that could be felt in Massachusettes (especially in western mass)? I know they’re not common here but I felt one yesterday (VERY small and, only lasted like 10 seconds. that was arounf 5pm). I checked the usgs website but found nothing so far because whenever I checked Massachusettes in said error. Thanks for your help

A coworker told me of a top ten list of natural disaster that came on yahoo recently. He described one of the disasters as occurring about 20 or 40 years ago in some central America country like Ecuador where gas had leaked throughout a city and the gas caught on fire and burned many people. I looked all over and couldn’t find any disaster like this in history. Does anybody know of a disaster like this happening?

How come Mexico is not making any offers of help or sending any aid to Haiti but they did to Texas when it was their people any reason why no help to the country of Haiti? In Texas Mexico sent food, water,medical dr’s, nurses, medical supplies, clothes, after the hurricane hit Texas and the areas had a high population of illegals but so far Mexico has not made any public offers to help out that country, Mexico has enough money to help out ? One drug cartel suitcase full of money would help out Haiti, would Mexico make a sincere effort to help out if their people were over there ?

I heard about this but I’m not sure how they have an impact on the Earth’s axial rotation. They said these earthquakes cause the Earth to speed up in axial rotation and there was one today; I hope to God and in my heart, no innocent people were caught in it. That would be bad. Would we have to skip a second or make them internally shorter on the other hand?
