Oil covered farmland, hospitals, water reservoirs, power generating stations. Is a response being prepared to clean people covered by Hurricane deposited oil?
If I lived in a hurricane effected are I would be making a few phone calls and sending emails.

I sure hope you are right. Thanks for responding with a positive viewpoint.

A major hurricane is category 3 and up.
Does the house or building really shake from the wind?
I’ve heard the wind can sound like a plane taking off. Is this true?

Our house is on a hill. Our "basement’ is not underground and there are sliding glass doors going to the front yard from the basement. Every room in our house has windows except for the closets and hallway. There are two adults and two small children. Where is the best spot for us to go if a tornado hits?

My grandparents were on a freeway bridge when the earthquake hit. I am so grateful for good engineers who design these buildings and bridges well! What about you?

This is kinda like a "what if" question. This is a horrible disaster, and it is hurricane season. Would oil "get" into the rain, since water evaporates, to form rain? If this did happen it would be a disaster, or is it possible it would just be like a normal hurricane, with oil having no effect at all?

I am writing a short story for a scholarship. It has tornado-warning siren in it, but I don’t know how to describe it with an onomatopoeia.

Hi im trying to figure out this question for the earth science regents, but i don’t know how to do it.
I knew how to do it at one point in my life but if forgot lol
so
here is the question

the first S-wave arrived at a seismograph station 11 minutes after an earthquake occurred. How long after the arrived of the first P-wave did the first S-wave arrive.

if you could explain how to do it that would be really helpful.

I am going to live with my dad soon for about 6 weeks. He lives right on the coast of southern North Carolina (3 minute walk from the ocean). I am a bit worried about what would happen in the case of a hurricane. What can I do to be prepared? I know that my dad and stepmom have the basics like food/water and emergency supplies or whatever but what can I do? I am 17, almost 18 by the way and I will have my own car there. Also, what happens in the case of a hurricane evacuation? Advice from someone who has experienced it? Thanks for your help!

I’m doing a science project and need to know what soil is best for structures such as buildings. Also, what type of soil is used for earthquake proof buildings? It would also be great if you could include links to sites. Please Help!!

I live in FL & we supposedly never get ‘dangerous’ tornadoes, but earlier today everyone was saying that there was one. How big does a tornado have to be to pick up a car? And what about to destroy a typical house (you know — the houses that only have a thin layer of cement around the outside)? Thanks!

Also, how do find the speed of a p wave and an s wave?

When BP CEO Tony Hayward testified before Congress this morning, many expected to hear him apologize for the disaster his company has caused which is destroying the gulf of Mexico and the southern coast of the United States, and may also soon spread to the east coast. Instead, Republican Congressman Joe Barton was the one saying he was sorry — to BP.

In his opening statement, Barton, the top Republican on the committee overseeing the oil spill and its aftermath, delivered a personal apology to the oil giant. He said the billion fund that President Obama directed BP to establish to provide relief to the victims of the oil disaster was a "tragedy in the first proportion." Because, as a typical Republican, he is more interested in representing industry and big oil corporations, not the American people he is supposed to represent.

Other Republicans are echoing his call. Republican Sen. John Cornyn said he "shares" Barton’s concern. Republican Michele Bachmann said that BP shouldn’t agree to be "fleeced." She feels making BP take responsibility to compensate those whose livelihoods have been destroyed by BP is a bad idea. Rush Limbaugh the king of promoting corporate America over its citizens, called it a "bailout." How about that for typical Limbaugh irresponsible and backwards thinking!? The Republican Study Committee, with its 114 members in the House, called it a "shakedown." BP is not eve and American owned company so these Republican are not even taking the side of Americans corporations over American people. They are taking the side of foreign corporations, careless foreign corporations who are destroying our nations coastline at that, over the interests of the American people!

This fund is a major victory for the people of the Gulf. It’s a key step toward making them whole again. BP has a responsibility to those whose lives and livelihoods have been devastated by the disaster. And BP oil executives don’t deserve an apology — the people of the Gulf do.

Now if we can just get the Republican Party to think about the needs of the American people for once and stop BSing us and selling the US out to corporations, foreign or domestic!

Is the world coming to an end?
i have noticed that since year 2000, a lot of natural disasters have been occuring and seem to be intensifying as we draw even closer to 2012, i mean just this year alone we have had the earth quake in haiti, the earth quake in chile and the earth quake in turkey, the earthquake in indonesia, not to talk about the massive flood in portugal and the latest earthquake in china. is it just me or does it seem that the closer we get to 2012 the mayan end of the world the worse globally things seem to become. i am starting to think that all of these are signs and that on december 21 2012, that something will go wrong with the hadron collider in 2012 and BANG!, THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN AND BYE BYE WORLD WITH A BANG. just interested what are ur thoughts

pls ans

Is anybody worried about this years hurricane season? Possibly up to 23 hurricanes? It worrys me because it gives the whole gulf coast a greater risk of getting hit by a hurricane. It’s crazy. Ive been thinking about buying hurricane supplies now to be better prepared. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and I wasen’t prepared for Gustav at all and wasent too worried as it was a landfalling category 2. It ended up being the worst storm to ever hit Baton Rouge and I lost most of my roof in that storm, Along with my bathroom window and the pine trees in my yard. Should I start preparing now for possible storms this year? What are yall doing?

I understand that a tornado’s destructive path can go for miles and be anywhere from feet to a mile wide (F5). But how far into the ground does it disturb? I see storm shelters aren’t very deep, how shallow is considered safe?

I have scientific proof that 2012 is bound NOT to happen. I just want to hear your thoughts, and share mine, too. Evidence: you would be able to see Planet X coming by now in the night sky if it were that close to Earth (or if it even exists); the possibility of Planet X actually striking Earth is very slim; Polar Shifts are just a theory, and would otherwise take 5,000 years to complete; the Galactic Alignment had, supposedly, already happened or is going to happen later on, but Sag. A (center of the galaxy) would need to be thousands of light-years closer to Earth to have any effect AT ALL; human disasters are predictable, but astronomical and natural disasters such as tsunamis, earthquakes, etc. are completely unpredictable; the Mayans started all of this, and even THEY don’t think 2012 is a disaster but a celebration for a new tomorrow!

These are my accurate facts about 2012, now tell me what you think!
