If natural disaster wiped out most larger plant and animal populations, what do you think?
WOULD survive? I am thinking thermophilic archaea as it seems to be pretty resilient.

What are the factors that determine the time that elapses between an earthquake and it’s discovery by seismometers, and how do these factors influence the travel time?
Or do earthquakes start/originate per fault line?
For example, does the San Adreas fault move/crack when there’s an earthquake at the San Fernando/Northridge fault?
Is anyone besides me worried about these sudden string of Earthquakes happening? I have a feeling the worst has yet to come. What is your opinion?
I am currently in high school in PA (last place to be if your love the beach) and I HAVE TO go to college in North Carolina, because we also have another house down there and I can establish a residency and go for a cheaper price- no choice.
Now I’ve always dreamed about living in southern CA. Please dont lecture me about wildfires and earthquakes and insane prices of living, Im too young to go that far.
I want to work somewhere in fashion, either be a designer for a fashion merchandiser or work for a fashion magazine… I started a little jewelry business I have a website and business cards and everything… and that’s pretty impressive for a 15-year-old. so maybe I could work off making that grow into something really big
I know for a fact that I can’t just jump off the college band wagon and achieve this so no lectures about that either
Photography is my fallback, I could take pictures of the beach, or I could STILL work in fashion as a photographer-it comes naturally to me …
someone in my family applied for the Haiti TPS thing & she found the letter late, she missed her appointment, the paper said that if she misses it,m her application will be considered "abondoned" -

-can she fix it easily?

Sadly, the selfless heroism of New York’s Police and Firemen manifested on 9-11 appears to not be the “norm”. The public is becoming aware that our family’s, communities and our own health and safety rests in our own hands.
Columbine High School on April 20, 1999: Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold murderous rampage began at 11 am, and they committed suicide an hour later at 12:08 pm — Police protocols had teams reaching the first victims 4 hours after the first shots had been fired or about 3 pm – victims who would die in the extra half hour it would take before those same police protocols allowed paramedics clearance to respond.
Hurricane Katrina: Officials tasked the National Guard to duties other than providing needed survival supplies and the Red Cross and Salvation Army were denied entrance as evacuation protocals didn’t want any food, water and sanitary supplies getting into the Superdome or Convention Center. It was and is up to the public to supply our own protection and aid.
First Haiti, then Guatemala, then Chile, now California:
An earthquake rumbled early Saturday off the northern California coast and dozens of people in Humboldt County reported feeling it, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The 4.6-magnitude temblor hit at 12:46 a.m. and was centered in the Pacific Ocean about 30 miles west of Ferndale.
USGS geophysicist Randy Baldwin said the temblor was lightly felt in area cities such as Eureka and Ferndale but wasn’t strong enough to cause damage.
"Ferndale felt it the most," he said.http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-mew-earthquake-northern-california6-2010mar06,0,5397081.story?track=rss
whats happening to the worldd or is a cluster of earthquakes normal?
it was me in a train , and the train had been derailing off the train tracks, i jumped out the window as soon as the train derailed, and there i was standing at the side of the tracks, watching the train fall onto its side. i was in geography today, and i saw a picture of that same train derailed off the train tracks, but the problem is, i’ve never seen the video of the earthquake in this place, which was major and happened in 1994 in america. can someone help? does this mean anythin? i dont usually ask questions like this and im really freaked out

facilities in the Persian Gulf. A total of 120,000 gallons of crude oil(density 0.86 g/cm^3) spilled onto the desert soil. At first it was thought that 50,000 gallons eventually flowed into a reservoir that supplies drinking water to several communities.Later it was learned that only 35,000 gallons had flowed into the reservoir. The clean up crews removed the crude oil from the reservoir in a little over week.It took much longer to remove the crude oil from the sandy desert soil. After two weeks of continuous effort,, only 5000 gallons of oil had been removed. This area of the desert is irrigated and used for growing crops,,most of which were killed by the crude oil oil.It is not yet known if all if all the oil can be removed from the soil and if crops will grow in the region again.
a.- Which physical property of the crude oil allowed it to be easily cleaned uo from the water reservoir?
.b.- Why is the earthquake in the article considered to be a natural disaster?
c.-Calculate the percent deviation of the first estimate of the amount of crude oil in the reservoir compared to the actual amount. Including writing the equation, substituting values, and indicating the answer.
d.-What was the rate of the crude oil recovery from the soil in gallons per day for two week period described in the article? Show the work.
e.- Explain why the crude oil in the soil would be considered pollution.Be sure to use the term concentration in the answer.
The Bubonic Plague of the mid-fourteenth century was the most devastating natural disaster in European History. We now konw that this plague was caused by rats that were infected by bacteria-carrying fleas. The rats carried the disease as they were unknowingly transported with cargo ships through trade routes. A third of the entire population of Europe is thought to have been killed by this plague. What caused the Bubonic Plague?
Hello,
I’m looking for companies that deal with disaster reconstruction and disaster relief. I am a junior civil engineer and have an interest in working for a company that works in this area. If you could please provide me with some names and/or websites of companies that do this type of work it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
truth or rumor???
Thank you!!
I was just wondering, because
My friends heard it somewhere..
The area where I live wasn’t really affected,
We didn’t feel it much in the Bay Area.
does anyone know how to make a model of a seismograph that actually works?
Is it true that every disaster in the world goes through its obligatory two-week focus cycle and then is discarded as old news? Doesn’t this latest crisis in Haiti prove this once and for all? After all, the ante has now been upped to 200,000. Who would have thought that any calamity would have reached that number, much less an earthquake? Has there ever been an earthquake with that many deaths in the history of the world? If 200,000 dead people is not going to break the two-week attention barrier, then what will?

Hi, I go to college in Austin, but my parents live in an area right outside of Houston called the Woodlands. I talked to them only briefly after the storm, and they said they were fine and had tons of supplies but no power. Now I can’t seem to reach them on their cell phone either and I’m starting to get worried – it’s been two days that I haven’t heard anything. Does anyone know someone in that area? I just wanted to get some information on how everyone is holding up in the Woodlands, I hate not knowing! If you could let me know what you’ve heard, that would be great!
1 or 2? 3 and 4 are letters C & D, but its not 3 or 4. Is it one or 2? PLease help, I’m leaning towards 2…
Now that I hear that, I believe it IS three; wow. Dumb me, haha. Thanks!

Maybe in a HP supercell, the tornado could suck in a lot of rain drops, that it makes the tornado primarily composed of rain. Would that make it a water spout, or would it still be a tornado?
I thought so. Matt V, you will be given best answer later on.

Were you prepared by having food and water on hand?
Were you prepared to handle some of the clean up of the damage afterwards (water damage, trees)?
Were you told to evacuate and did you feel you were given enough time?
If not what would have been a good time?
Did you feel a sense of self responsibility or did you think the community should be taken care of by the govt?
