Their colors are showing. I mean Exxon, Texaco, BP et al. First Hurricane Dean isn’t here yet and the Texas coast is paying 20-cents more per gallon than it was last week. Such compassion, such civic responsiblity — this price banditry is the hallmark of big oil. Remember Katrina. Same thing.
Space493: Greetings. No conspiracy. Just business as usual. Nationalize them all I say. The nation’s economy is more important to we the people of America than making a few New Jersey fat cats fatter.

hurricanes have increased in intensity and numbers drasticaly. there has been more volcanic eruptians, earthquakes, more intense thunderstorms, and tsunamis. also, the climate is shifting. i believe global warming is a rising factor that is being ignored. something needs to be done before it is too late. governemtnis more worried about money then it is man kind. what are your views?
i understand that its nautral and will occur no matter what, but its the intensity and how we speed the proccess up that worries me. sea level is rising, this is another problem occuring due to the melting glaciers.

Something like the base, the skeleton of the building, etc.
I need to research how to build a structure that is safe from earthquakes. Can you please not give me the material, as we will need to build one out of popsicle sticks tomorrow.

A good answer that I’m looking for is… triangle base… longer length… etc. (I made the above up)

I think that I read somewhere that there are graphs from somewhere that bear witness to a demolition but I’ve never seen that in the press.

Every since I was a very young girl I had dreams that seems to come true. For example (I had a dream my cousin was shot in the head, and in reality he was shot in the head) I was about 7 years old at that point I am now 23. To make a long story short lots of my dreams come true almost all of them but they usually happen a little different. For example, Death doesn’t always mean death it could mean something will be tooking from me or will disappear. But my cousin got shot in the head in my dream and shot in the head in real life months after I dreamed it… I also daydream vivid pictures and signs that comes true

However, lately I dream that the moon falls out of the sky and it cuts off my air but after awhile I breath again. Lastnight I had the same dream and it almost happened the same way expect it betrays like the world is at a end, and I’m holding my two kids telling them how much I love them. I decide to run to the door to see what’s happening and I see the moon falling. I try to rush back to my kids and it feels like force is pulling me and my air cuts off again. Somehow I excape the held force and make it back to my kids and I decided to hold them until death. But instead I guess the moon lands and causes a great earthquake. Once the earthquake stop we are still alive and I look out the window and see many dead bodies. Its daytime in the dream but its filled with darkness like the sun had stopped shinning.

Can someone please help me????????

hurricane season is approaching and every year my fellow gulf coast residents prepare for the big one (remember rita?) they run to the store and buy all the supplies and water and other non perishables weeks before it even begins. normally i dont prepare too much but my question is does anybody here have a hurricane survival plan? any special tips they would like to offer such as evacuation routes, supply storage,. etc. ive lived in houston and louisiana my whole life and survived a lot of storms but with the economy being so unstable and with gas and food being so expensive, any tips we can share with one another would be nice.

When an earthquake occurs, two types of sound waves are generated and travel through the earth. The primary, or P, wave has a speed of about 9.0 km/s and the secondary, or S, wave has a speed of about 4.5 km/s. A seismograph, located some distance away, records the arrival of the P wave and then, 140 s later, records the arrival of the S wave. Assuming that the waves travel in a straight line, how far is the seismograph from the earthquake?

why have no travel restrictions been imposed?

Among the nations reporting confirmed cases or investigations were Canada, France, Israel and New Zealand.

Where is the CDC, FEMA, DHS et al.

I was on a cruise ship, and all of a sudden it started to rain tennis balls. It stopped, then a tornado formed and sucked us in. We were right about to go right into the middle of it, but then i started to pray to god. The tornado went away, and i woke up. What does this mean.

Also, how far away can an average earthquake be felt? For example, if there’s a medium-strength earthquake centered in San Jose, what are the chances that someone 50 miles away in San Francisco would notice it?

Thanks!

My 5th grader chose a very tough subject for his science project. (What causes earthquakes?) He came up with an idea for a model, did all the research, wrote the entire presentation on power point (supplies, procedure, hypothesis, results ext…), and did most of the work puting the project together. I was with him and oversaw the entire process. I helped by finding some of the supplies he wanted, making suggestions when parts didn’t work (he tried several ways to make the experiment work) and assisted him in putting peices together that required more then two hands. I also took pictures of the process since I borrowed a camara and wasnt sure they’d want him handling it. A friend said I should just leave him to it and let him do it all on his own. What should I have done different?

for science we needed to answer these questions… can any one help? our science teacher gave us this site to work with: quake.wr.usgs.gov/study/

For CA- how many [earthquakes] in the last hour?
how many in the last day?
what is the magnitude of the largest?

what is the location and magnitude of the quake nearest to us on the US map? where in the US are there the most earthquakes? the least? what dates are covered for this listing?

How many earthquakes occurred on the most recent month (8-30 days)?
Where in the world are most of the earthquakes located?

For significant quakes give the following:
highest magnitude- number, location
deepest focus location (in earth)- how deep?
closest to surface
caused the most damage

How does the Mercalli scale and the Richter scale measure the strength of an earthquake? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using each scale? Under what conditions would one scale be more beneficial to use than the other?

The mid west is having massive floods, so how come other countries won’t send us any help? We send in the Red Cross, and our troops to help them out, but do they ever send us anything? Think we need to stop sending any country that doesn’t send something back to us when we are in need!

My bank, Wachovia, is making me pay for hurricane insurance on the replacement value of my home instead of the amount of money I owe on the mortgage. Last year they tried the same thing but were willing to just insure the mortgage amount, This year I was told the amount would be added to my mortgage for the replacement value. This is over 3 times the mortgage amount. I refused but was told I could not. What can I do?

Atlantis was hit by a natural disaster and is now a "lost city". Do you think if New Orleans was a island it could be under water because of hurricane Katrina and if there was an earthquake?

Should the word luck be associated with surviving an illness, natural disaster or accident?

Is it luck that caused a miracle to happen in your life?
Was it luck that healed you?
Was it luck that kept you safe in the most dangerous situations that you ever confronted, but you survived?
Why luck? or Why blessing?
